How do you know that? Hamilton his entire career has been a weird egg in locker rooms and never really found a fit/home until he got to the canes. If you know everything you just stated than he and his agent know this things as well. The canes telling them to find out what they can do elsewhere and compare it to what only the canes can offer in the form of an 8 year deal doesnt really hurt them. It's not like they only have limited cap space to spend. If he goes out and says I know I can get 54x7 from two teams and the canes say we will come up to 60x8 and they get a deal than how does it really hurt anyone. They have the 8th year leverage and they know he will be in demand, so what, they still have the hammer of the 8th year to use as leverage. he's turning 28 in a few days, 7 years takes him to 35 after which he isn't getting paid a ton per year anyways, so getting an 8th year at big ish dollars is an X factor only the canes have to use here
He's an offensive defensive man during silly season. There is no way that guy isn't getting paid what he wants. We know Carolina has a cheap ass owner and there are going to be plenty of teams lining up. If this is their strategy then it will absolutely backfire. In fact, I cant recall a recent time when a player has been given permission to seek a new contract from another team while the playoffs are still ongoing and that player going back. Its not gonna happen.

See there is the thing, I dont think Keller and Kessel are very good, and Garland of last year was not the Garland of this year. Everything stated needs context...

Garland of last year scored 2.03 points/60. He was very good. You are just looking at his raw numbers which are lower because he played 14 mins/game. And Keller/Kessel are mostly better than the guys Chytil has played with so far.

Umm right, I appreciate you skipping over literally everything I wrote that exists outside of video game gm. How do you even know he wants to leave the canes and carolina thinks the same and is calling his bluff? You dont know and my point is their could be more here than meets the eye. Other players have been given permission to talk to other teams and still resigned...

Are you suggesting Garland was the same caliber of player last year as he was this year, yes or no?

Some players switch position when they get to the NHL. Hayes and Aho played on the wing as well before they got to the NHL. But others moved from center to wing or switched a year or 2 into their NHL career.

Not saying I disagree with you but some players go their entire career playing the same position. Chytil just isn't one of them, which leads to some people feeling he'd be better suited on the wing. It's not a crazy assumption.

Just so happens this exact organization is the one that decided Hayes was a center, played him at center, and kept him there. So far they have done the exact same thing as Chytil. There is no evidence to think otherwise. He has played center and has been good at everything except faceoffs which is the least important thing and he also improved on them this year.

Are you suggesting Garland was the same caliber of player last year as he was this year, yes or no?

Just about, yea. And far better than Kakko, Gauthier and the like Chytil has had with him.

It is very possible that in another org that isnt starved for centers he may not have been playing center.

As for garland and watching their games I respectfully disagree and the team that covers them do as well. He grew leaps and bounds this year as a player.

Larry Brooks with the old HF take...

In essence, using the tool provided by the financial management firm, Gavin Hockey Wealth Specialists, the Lightning begin with the equivalence of an approximately $10.3 million head start on the Islanders, and the Golden Knights begin with an equivalent edge of $13.3 million over the Canadiens.

add that with the borderline LTIR cheating.... How long will this continue? it's becoming comical

also....

Though it goes without saying, it will be said anyway: If Mark Scheifele somehow becomes available out of Winnipeg, he is the player for whom the Rangers empty the cupboard, and the guy in Buffalo becomes Jack Who?
hmmmm..

That is a massively misleading quote. He is talking about the tax free income tax states and he never called it cheating. The whole sement was tongue in cheek and talked about CBA changes as a possible solution to level the playing field.

who said he called it cheating? It's a massive advantage and it's exacerbated by the flat cap.

I called the LTIR juggling borderline cheating. They have a $100M roster in the playoffs.. how is that not cheating the system/opponents? Add in the state tax issue and it make it even more sour

It’s a good take. It makes no sense for the cap to be exactly the same for every team given all of the geographic variables (Cost of Living, taxes, etc.). It’s a big advantage for a few teams.

Allan Walsh, the agent of (among others) Libor Hájek, explained this on Twitter a while ago. It mainly focuses on Canada-based players who can limit their taxes to 20%, which is roughly what players in "tax free states" would pay in local and federal tax combined

For anyone interested...

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
Hamilton is an odd lot. Not one of the boys. That’s what bought him a ticket out of Calgary.

He could end up with the Flyers. It feels like a Philadelphia kind of move.

Teams will give something for the right to have an exclusive negotiating window. I just don’t see how this goes down before the expansion draft though.
