sucks we won't be allowed to sit in the seats.
My sig other was really hoping to be able to, to make sure she can fit before going to a concert next month.

If the presentation centre is still open, she could go for a test drive in the seats there?

As ugly as Baccarat is, I enjoyed that casino. Whether I won or lost I never felt cheated in there. I can't say the same thing about the Yellowhead casino. I actually had a pit boss stop the sicbo wheel mid spin on me and quickly spin it himself because the spinner was inexperienced and he figured I could read her.:amazed:. Last time I ever gambled there.

Anyway, baccarat is an eyesore that needed to be replaced but it was a good casino.

Yeah I liked the Baccarat too. Not much of a gambler but when I did go it was fun to sit at the tables for a bit, had a really relaxed feeling for a casino and I liked it's gaudy old 80s vibe.

I think I read somewhere that season seat holders can visit their seats. Be the first to sit in them.

It's a nice gesture but why not have season ticket holders in first and then the general public so people can all take part of the views and imagine the experience?

Some will, apparently. I received the following invitation for a tour on the 9th, one day before the public open house:

"During this event you will have the opportunity to sample food and beverage offerings, explore Rogers Place, and meet your Premium Services Team."

The invite also promised "more details", so I assume there will be a few more surprises than just taste testing.

Potential Ambulance ride to take care of the food poisoning? :sarcasm:

Cuz the unwashed masses are dirty and gross. :sarcasm:

Honestly, I think it would be far too difficult to control with big crowds. Being able to sit in a seat is a reasonable benefit for people who are forking out big, big cash to have seasons tickets.

Got tickets to the Flames home opener against the Oilers. As I can't take off mid week for the home opener in Edmonton.

Hopefully I can make it up there at least once this year.

Anyone think that lower level teams tickets will be cheap? Say against an East team or something? Or will all games be expensive this year?

Almost certainly not. With ticket prices the way they are, and because of the "shiny-new-building" factor, I think the only chance I have of seeing an NHL game at Rogers Place is if I were to get a job there.

Heaven sent
Damn economy, shutting down rigs all over the province.

And now "disaster" at the Energy East hearings, heh.

Some people just really hate oil. I guess it doesn't bode well for oils future in Alberta, but as we all know, oil is dangerously boom-bust. Wonder if this kind of disruption will affect the Edmonton downtown developments around Rogers Place at all, as I remember Katz saying northern Alberta factored into his longterm equation:

"August 29, 2014, Katz on the arena district: “It may be hard for you to believe, but we planned this before we bought the team. We were active in the real-estate market, relative to where we saw the arena (being built). So, this doesn’t happen overnight. It happens over many years. It’s very satisfying to see it come out of the ground, but as I said, from an investment point of view, this is as much a play on Alberta and where Alberta’s going, particularly northern Alberta, as anything… Right now, there’s about $1.1 billion in the ground, under construction. With about another $1.5 billion to start in the next six months. There’s nothing like this district anywhere in Canada. Arguably, there’s nothing like this anywhere in North America. .. We are building more in Phase 1 in Edmonton (arena, city tower, Block K) than they have built, to date, in 12 to 15 years at L.A. Live. So, you ask what’s the significance of this project? This isn’t just an Edmonton story, this is a Canadian story, a North American story, it’s a world-class story because we have a world-class sports and entertainment district under construction now in the city and nobody really knows about it…This is what makes me tick. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to do something special for everybody.”

It will definitely be interesting to see how the crowds and secondary ticket markets fare this year. There's just so many factors.

New Building
Team Performance
The absolute worst I may have ever seen the Economy in Alberta.

Didn't the old Coliseum open when the economy was crap also?

It's funny I love the Oilers and watch as much as I can. Read as much as I can. Listen to Oilers now pretty much every day.

But there's no ****ing way in hell I'm paying that much to watch them play live.

Everyone has their spending priorities and to each their own. I'll just say thanks to all the people that purchased season tickets. If you were all like me the team would be moved in a heartbeat.

Cheap is a relative word - I meant around face value.

Yeah, I have a season ticket package and sell a lot of my games for face value. The season ticket holders are doing well so far, the resale market is still strong. Cheapest tickets into the building for even the low drawing teams is still around $100/ticket. I've been selling some between $80-120 per ticket and I'm at second row in upper bowl. The cheaper tickets sell quickly.
