The fact that they will have a special event for the first person skating on the ice is so lame IMO.

This is my guess as well, though maybe not with the C.

Pens did the same with Crosby & Lemieux skating together on Consol ice.

Difference between the Oilers and Pens situations being that Lemieux is an owner of the Pens and Gretz is just being a nice guy.

I would bet we see Gretzky at the first regular season game. Don't think he will come to town for this pr event.

To some it might be. To others they will find it pretty cool. I personally don't care one way or another I just want hockey to start.

As ridiculous as it sounds now, Baccarat was as good as casinos got in Edmonton when it opened. As was the original location for the Palace Casino in West Edmonton Mall.

When it opens I'll wander over and take a look. Tough to judge fairly when they are still in the midst of construction. But whoever said online judgments were ever related to fairness? :sarcasm:

Oh I'll definitely take a poke around at some point.

That stuns me that Baccarat could ever be considered "good". Even the owners can't contain their glee at getting a new building.

Just a reminder to all those interested, tickets will be released tomorrow for the open house on September 10. A link to where to get them will be put up here in the morning.

Just curious, has anybody actually been able to book tickets from this site yet? I keep refreshing the page (and subscribed to the newsletter a week or two ago), but have yet to see any definitive sign-up form or anything like that.

Perhaps I'm just too much of a keener... :P

Me three!

Can't WAIT to see this beauty in person. I'm especially interested to see if we get any behind-the-scenes access that you normally wouldn't get to see on Gameday.

It's really a function of how terrible the other casinos were in Edmonton at that time. Baccarat opened in 94 or 95

Baccarat opened a few years after ABS on 112th street closed. But if any of the older demographic among users here remember that terrible, disgusting place then Baccarat being considered good puts it into perspective. Or the casino that was in the old Mayfair hotel in the early 90s. :amazed:

Just signed up for the tour of Rogers. Got two passes for 11 am.
