I guess that was the joke at council yesterday or day before. Something about you're sure it finished on time andddddd budget":laugh::laugh:

And PCL has also nearly finished Mosaic Stadium in Regina, on time and on budget. Apparently they know how to get **** done.

I worked with some PCL Engineers in my old job. Those guys are super organized all around. Really bright people too.

Sad panda :(

Was hoping the new rink would have gone the Saddledome route and punted Molson to the curb finally.

Oh well back to rye and coke for me.

They have just re-uped on a long term contract so don't hold your breathe.

I can't feasibly see that relationship ever changing, Molson has been a HUGE sponsor since day one and back in the "Les Alexander" days ran a promo to "save the oilers" and keep them in Edmonton.

Same here! When Blue was still around

Man, I miss both Playdium and Reds. Legit arcades where you could get loaded drunk at the bar and then play some video games. Those 10 man racing games were pretty fun, and Amplitude was great too. One of my friends was really trashed and fell off the skateboarding game once and gashed his head open.

That's actually one of the best things about the new rink. There's lots of places close by worth going for a drink before a game. Or after. Or both.

Yeah looking forward to trying some of the restaurants and pubs around the new rink.

back at the old rink when I used to go to games. I would always avoid the $20 parking and park at the race track for free and go pre-drink at the race track an hour or so before the game.

stadiums and arenas are pretty high profile jobs. I feel they act like a resume to prospective high profile clients. although PCL's reputation is pretty entrenched by now.

It is a nice change after all the crap we've dealt with in Edmonton with the bridges and transit.

I so miss my morning views of the rink cams.

why are they removing sections of the siding to the casino? the new casino, not that other ugly structure whose demolition can't come soon enough.

My co-worker just left to go be the singer in the first band to test the system at Rogers.

He said that it's going to be a full function test of all the lighting and effects!

There are a few barcades around North America. THere's actually a chain called Barcade. I'm sure the prices are awful.

It would be cool if there was an arcade near Rogers Place. Great pre and post game spot.

not that I know of
but off the top of my head...Mercer Tavern is next door, Metro Billiard Hall is close (106 st and 103 ave I believe), Denizen Hall is off 103rd ave and 103rd street...Joey Bell Tower just opened up
plus all the ones that are currently on Jasper Ave (the Pint, Central Social, Pub 1904 etc...)

I haven't been in an arcade since high school. Would be fun to get loaded and have some fun with your friends though.

I'll agree with that comment for sure! Mainly because I was a Field Engineer for PCL for 5 years and am now a carpenter with them (my choice to make the switch)

We used to make entire weekends of meeting up with friends from high school back in the day. We would go out Friday night, then spend Saturday afternoon at Playdium drinking and playing video games, go to a Rush game on Saturday night (We once had 20 of us from my high school in a section) and then hit up the Oilers Sunday afternoon game. Edmonton could really fill up an entire weekend with a lot of fun back then for sure. Actually, one of my favorite Rexall Place memory comes from back then (think it was Skyreach at the time). About 10 of us were all sitting near the Leafs bench and spent the entire game heckling Darcy Tucker to the point we actually started getting to him and he was cursing at us and constantly looking back at us. He actually had a horrible game, and I like to think we had something to do with it.
