Greiss numbers this season are very similar to his 2015-2016 season. It's more about him finding his game and Trotz' defensive system.
Lehner has had a solid career playing for bad teams so it's not like he came out of nowhere either. Now he's having a career year.

I'm sure Korn has had a positive effect in some ways but he's not a miracle worker. Watching both play its obvious they have talent. Greiss for instance still has trouble with rebound control. However he has good instincts and other strengths. Both seem mentally tough this year which seems kinda strange.

I was perusing some statistics and noticed something interesting. The top 4 teams right now with regard to defensive play (fewest goals against per game) are NYI, BOS, DAL, NSH in that order. All four of those teams use two goalies with at least 20 starts:

NYI:
Lehner- 30gp, .930%
Greiss- 29gp, .927%

BOS:
Rask- 30gp, .922%
Halak- 29gp, .921%

DAL:
Bishop- 34gp, .924%
Khudobin- 24gp, .924%

NSH:
Rinne- 39gp, .914%
Saros- 24gp, .913%

Perhaps this becomes a trend with how NHL teams build their back-end. I liken it to NFL teams moving away from relying on a single running back in favor of using a committee approach. Rotating in and out to keep guys fresh.

The thing that stands out to me on that list is Dallas’ goalies doing as well as they have, and all the years they wasted with Kari Lehtonen.

Let Lehner walk if he wants a long term deal for more than $4 million. Greiss is a bargain and has played just as well. We can get a cheaper tandem goalie for under $4 million and hope Sorokin comes over the next year.
