Larsson is not better or worth more then Risto. And when Risto gets his minutes eased back and he gets To feast against middle 6 lines he will dominate.

Risto is more talented and provides more grit than Larsson.

This is not a trade I would consider

Very few players in the entire NHL provide more grit than Larsson. You outed yourself as someone who knows nothing about him.

Did he really "out" himself? Not really, considering grit is one of the most poorly defined words in the hockey universe. Maybe you have "outed" yourself as someone that knows nothing about Ristolainen.

It's a silly thing to say.

Do it just so Larsson can win a Norris and make that trade tree even better.

Easy no. From what I've seen of Larsson, I'm not even sure he's that much better than Risto defensively.

Excuse me? Adam Larsson missed nearly 20 games last year, and came 7th in hits. He also came 15th in blocks per game. He consistently played against teams top players, and did a great job against them. He was a +10 on a minus team. Risto was a -25.

Offensively, if you look at even strength points per game, Risto would get 21 points in 82 games. Larsson would get 17.

Try turning the TV on next time, and you won't post something ridiculous like that.

Risto is one of the worst D in the league at actual defense.

Sounds like you could try taking your own advice there. Risto is a victim of playing more and more difficult minutes than he ideally should on a piss-poor team, and has been his entire career to date. I have watched Larsson (obviously not as much as Oiler fans, but I've watched him enough to form an opinion), and he leaves me unimpressed every time.

Ristolainen is overrated. His play in his own zone is abysmal. His power play skills are good but his even strength performances are very bad. He needs a steady D partner to babysit him or he needs to be put on the 3rd pairing with power play time.

Wow, what a well articulated, smart, and educated response with great support of your argument, hats off. :help:
Calling risto trash and only good on PP despite the fact that he plays the hardest minutes in the league is so articulate, get lost, your team traded a hart winner for a #4 20 point d man who can't stay healthy

He plays the minutes yes. He's just doesn't play them and excel, or even do enough to get by. He gets absolutely obliterated anytime he's not on the pp.

Ah yes, the original you traded Hall comeback, nicely done.

The "Ristolainen gets caved in at ES" argument is made by people who stare at WOWY charts as opposed to actually watching the games. Ristolainen has had his struggles, but they are way overblown on HF.

As an Oiler fan I tend to agree with this statement. Risto is a heck of a player and his defensive lapses aren't on par with the worst in the NHL. That's a bit harsh fellas.

That being said Larsson is a rock solid defensive defenseman on a great deal. His play allows players like Klefbom to pinch and be a bit more aggressive in the offensive zone. He plays the game with an edge and doesn't take stupid penalties. While Ristolainen would add an excellent offensive dimension Larsson doesn't have, Larsson has him beat in pretty much all other areas. I guess it depends on what your blueline lacks.

Both teams say no.

Risto may have more talent but Larsson is the better player and is the type of player teams need in the playoffs . Edmonton should not and can not afford to trade the better player on the better contract .
Laughable

Ramsus Ristolainen
Sam Reinhart
for
William Nylander
Nikita Zaitsev

Marleau - Matthews - Reinhart
Hyman - - - Tavares - - - Marner
Johnsson - - Kadri - - - Kapanen
Leivo/Ennis - Lindholm - Brown

Gardiner - - - - Rielly
Hainsey - Ristolainen
Borgman - - Dermott

- - - - -

Skinner - - - Eichel - - - Okposo
Sheary - - Nylander - Mittelstadt
Sobotka - - Berglund - Rodrigues
Wilson - Grigensons - Pominville

Dahlin - - - Zaitsev
McCabe - Scandella
Beaulieu - Bogosian

Leafs downgrade their offence and take on a project in Ristolainen, who would have the opportunity to develop his game under Babcock, especially playing with Coach Hainsey. Reinhart is like an upgraded version of Brown/Hyman imo which would work well with Matthews.

The Sabres get Willy and a stable Dman in Zaitsev. Willy and his brother can be line mates over the course of the next few years

Ristolainen is not a project.
