Will poor Ristolainen ever find a team that will let him be a second pair, PP specialist D, with a defensively responsible partner, instead of BIG! Shutdown D! Seriously, when you see a team pay assets for Ristolainen, and then give Yandle PP duty, you know that intelligence is not required to be an NHL GM.

Completely agreed. I actually think Ristolainen would be a great asset to playoff team with a steady #6 LHD or a maaaaybe a very solid #3 LHD.

With the way he plays, I think he would be a huge playoff asset as long as he has a sheltered role with a suitable partner

Has to be alarming for Flyers fans if this is true. It must suck knowing that your front office is pretty much doubling down on a terrible move by offering him that contract extension.

At least he said no but damn having a front office capable of making such bad moves and being stubborn about it after the fact is rough. Canuck fans lived through it with Benning.

We're pretty much writing off the next decade at this point.

If you add this to the rumors that Philadelphia is interested in Petry, it kind of all makes sense. Flyers are looking for a veteran RHD for next season that's getting between $6m and $6.4m.

Risto turned that contract down. Now, they're not sure if they can re-sign him and looked into what it would cost to get Petry, who is playing way better under MSL.

The Tyler Myers to Philadelphia rumours should start any day now.

It would so refreshing to have a GM just admit his mistake instead of doubling down

Just be like
“we’ve decided to go in another direction in the way we want our defense core to be constructed and play”

Maybe Tampa to see his full potential on a good team. Maybe Florida.

Philadelphia:
1st 2022
Cal Foote
Otto Somppi

Tampa:
Ristolainen (50% retained by Philadelphia)
This is so bad for Tampa that any good GM would take it and run, even if the pick was very late.
However Fletcher will wait to the last moment and then sign him for 7 x 7 to show everyone how expensive player he was able to get.

I actually think Risto will resign for 8 years at 8 mil so Fletcher can keep his "almost contending" NHL franchise "contending". Remember, by "contending", Fletcher means finishing last in the division.
