We're 6th per capita if you count all medals as equals, if you don't we're even higher.

PS

We have as many medals in athletics as Germany

Impressive what Croatia, New Zealand and Denmark have done.

And Jamaica has Usain Bolt  Still very good though!

China is 76th
Russia is 42nd
Finland is 55th

Excellent resource. With the exception of Sochi, see how Finland's rank plummets over time. Especially notable are the medal counts of games around the 1920's.

Unfortunately the times of Paavo Nurmi and such are long, long gone, and there doesn't appear to be any money to even maintain the level of sports in which we were good in more recently. God bless hockey.

Great Britain finishing second is unheard of, especially beating China. We also became the only country ever to increase our medal tally after hosting the Olympics. We spend a lot of money on elite sport and its great to see it paying off.

Holy domination, check out 1904. Thanks to a reduced field (guess uppity Euros could not deign to travel to the States to compete :) ), the US had 2x as many Golds and the rest had total medals. But we still did not come first per capita, gold or any.
