So when Hudon scores a goal or two next season will we hear how stupid it was to let Hudon go and we lost such a great forward.

Can't wait to read it LOL.

(and yes I thought Hudon could be a good forward on the team last year, sucks it didn't work out for him.)

I don't know 100% how things work, but it looks like Habs qualified Hudon simply to hold onto his rights. They offered him the least possible knowing he'd turn it down.

The Habs still hold onto his rights because if they didn't qualify him, he'd become a UFA.

This way, they can trade him.

But if you refuse the QO, dont you become a UFA

edit : Looks like no, whats it gonna take to finally be rid of this guy lmao

No. You become a UFA if the team elects not to qualify you. As an RFA, the team has the control. If they choose to not qualify you, then you are free.

Audette won't be qualified according to Jean-Charles Lajoie. Since the team chose not to qualify him, then he becomes a UFA.

Just imagine the Tampa Bay Lightning and Julien Brisebois trade for him.

I can see them do it.

Hudon seems to be eager to play and to prove he can play top 6. We need to deal him, but I know he will do much better with an other team.

Tampa would be the perfect team for him

Good choice Hudon, don't let those clowns get in your way, I'd tell the same thing to anyone getting pampered like Hudon is. If you're letting someone in your life pampering you, you're losing yourslef, you're making an unholy pact.

he is either going to get moved for a late round pick; a comparable struggling player, or be a throw in on a bigger deal.

How much was the AHL part of the deal?
Because if it's the standard amount (read, not 300K), he's probably much better off declining the offer and go play somewhere in Europe.

And, who knows, it could even do wonder to him and to his career.

Now that it's widely reported and by some who say Hudon confirmed this, I changed it from Rumor to News Article. For whoever cares about that.

Trade his rights for Puljujarvi or Morin or someone like that, and that's it. (most likely with a +, I suppose)

Pretty sure a former 5th rounder with average AHL numbers fetches a 5th rd pick today. Future considerations my guess.

We tried to trade him last season, but no one wanted him, what will make teams want him now?

2012 Draft keeps delivering.

12/13 and soon to be 14 will essentially all be bust with no long term players on our team.

The grand hope lies in Lekhonen who is slowly playing his way to the 4th line on this team.

And Hudon actually did pretty good in the AHL, his last season there he had 49 points in 56 games.

Just to many players taken with no NHL future.

I wish Hudon well but no way he is part of this team’s 23 man roster

I think a small minority would think he does. This was more of a strategic move by the Habs rather than a hockey related one. This ensures that they hold his rights, even if he turned their offer down. If they didn't do this, he can become a UFA and go where he wants. By doing it, they can at least use him as an asset in a trade. Whether it be in a package deal or one for a draft pick. Either way, he remains an asset.
