From reading several articles from various hockey/newspaper/magazine sites as well as several media outlets both local and national, it’s obvious that the consensus is that the Flyers organization needs a major shake up. It’s more than a small group of posters on this site. The Flyers are losing the city. Comcast leadership has to be aware of this. Past time to do it. Get it done.

Bruce Boudreau comes in as Head Coach, and Fletcher is fired. Bruce then interviews and selects whomever he wants to be GM. Gord Murphy comes back as a Powerplay Coach. Yeo and Therrien are replaced by some Bruce picks. Hopefully he knows a real Pk specialist. And we at least will get some exciting, offensive regular season success.

Edit: Joe Mullen on PP, not Gord Murphy.

Fletcher has pretty obviously failed on every front and needs to go with AV. But Magua is right. Whatever happens, it'll be unoriginal and awful.

Lombardi as GM, Briere if they really think they need to get fans excited.

HC name won't even matter. Think of someone who coaches like it's 2008 or earlier and never changes anything. There is your coach. That's what they value, it's what they'll hire for.

At this point, briere would be a win. Because, even though he is “flyers kin” now he was in no way a prototypical flyer in the way he thought or played the game. If he comes in with fresh ideas then I 100% take it. Because any alternatives I feel the franchise would go for are just depressing.

As much as I loved him as a player, especially come playoffs, I don’t like the idea of Briere getting the job. It’s clear he’s been very close to the organization since retiring and he’ll essentially just be a puppet for the old boys. What are his credentials and what is his experience? He has zero track record and will have nothing to leverage to maintain independence in the job. I can definitely see the Flyers considering hiring Briere for GM and Lappy for HC.

Whoever is hired needs to be progressive in his hockey mind but also totally external with zero ties to the organization.

Yep, this is how I see it.

If he had fresh ideas the old boys club wouldn't like him as they do.

Yeah, but that's not what the guy asked - he asked who SHOULD it be  MacGruber teed off on one and sent the rest of you chasing the wrong shadow.

Lappy wore our blouse for ONE F***ING SEASON and they treat him like he's Barry Ashbee. It's f***ing weird.

I'd argue he's been treated better than Barry Ashbee at this point. He was only given the one job. He didn't want it at first because he thought it was out of pity rather than merit.

Lappy has sucked down more pity jobs devoid of merit than I can remember.

A guy can still remain optimistic. For this franchise to change, it has to be someone who they respect as an insider to call them out for their shit. Hextall could’ve been that guy but he was an abrasive control freak who couldn’t see his own faults in judgement. So we got fletch—who’s interview literally probably went like this.

Scott: “what is your organizational plan”
Fletcher: “well, what do you guys want”
Scott: “same as it always was”
Fletcher: “I can do that”
Scott: “you’re hired”

Who is even available right now?
I’d take Briere as an interim coach with the clear stipulation that he is off the coaching staff at the end of the year. No assistant status, off the staff.
If he wants to coach, he can cut his teeth with the phantoms and earn his way up.

Gord was never PP coach. You're thinking of Joe Mullen.

Briere has no coaching experience and is more interested in management.

That’s what I thought but I tossed that in just as my opinion. He shouldn’t be coaching, but if there’s no decent coaches available I don’t care who the interim is as long as they’re gone at the end of the year.

I think Briere would be worth a gamble. Hes a smart guy and knows how to manage people....he had the media wrapped around his finger when he was here. I also think his career of proving the dinosaurs wrong wouldnt translate into him adopting their roster philosophy. I could see him charming the old guard while ultimately doing his own thing.

If we need to hire former Flyers, we can at least try one that was actually good at hockey for once.
