Bäckman had an assist in Linköping's 5-4 OT win in game 3, they now lead the series 2-1. He was a -1, had 1 SOG, 21:18 icetime and 1 hit.

Playoffs about to start in CHL.

Ouellet already mentioned, Halifax was first in Q and faces Saint John first. Should be easy win. Hudon's Victoriaville faces Moncton.

Sproul's SSM is matched up against Owen Sound Attack. I think SSM has chance there.

Paterson's Saginaw is matched up against London Knights. Paterson may steal a game there.

Quine's Belleville won the East. They should beat Missisauga in the first round.

Athanasiou's Barrie was second and they are up against Kingston. Favorites to win the series.

In WHL Nedolmel's Swift Current made the playoff's too and are facing Calgary Hitmen (Brooks Macek plays there). Calgary had almost 20 more points during the reg. season.

First games are on Thursday.

Dont count on Sproul making it past the first round

Well I'm not betting money on it but I think they have a shot there.

Owen Sound had the third highest point total in the league behind London and Belleville. That is a pretty big ask.

They also enter the playoffs on a

6-0-0-2 streak while being 7-1-0-2 in their last ten

SSM: 4-5-0-1 in their last ten

Reg. season stats for CHL kids.

Richard Nedolmel
2012-13 Regular Season Swift Current Broncos 72 7 21 28 -13 105
2011-12 Regular Season Swift Current Broncos 72 10 36 46 -35 83

Penalty mins are last.

I think he gets a contract. I think Wings wanted him to focus more on D this season.

Ryan Sproul
2012-13 Regular Season Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 50 20 46 66 0 45
2011-12 Regular Season Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 61 23 31 54 16 53

The good: the points, the goals. 12 more points in 11 less gp. Broke he's arm during the season and still tore it up.

The bad: Team's goal differential improved by 50 goals this season. Yet he's +/- decreased by 16.

I think everyone knows about he's defensive woes. We'll see more this spring and next year on that.

Anders Athanasiou
2012-13 Regular Season Barrie Colts 66 29 38 67 13 30
2011-12 Regular Season London Knights 63 22 15 37 22 22

Pleasant surprise. Hope the kid keeps it up.

Jake Paterson

Season GP GAA SV% W L OTL SO
2012-13 Regular Season Saginaw Spirit 50 3.53 0.901 25 18 3 1
2011-12 Regular Season Saginaw Spirit 42 3.42 0.904 18 18 0 1

Numbers went down a bit but even without homer glasses I think we can say that the team was bad. We saw what he can do with Canada's junior team.

Alan Quine
2012-13 Regular Season Belleville Bulls 28 14 27 41 29 6
2012-13 Regular Season Peterborough Petes 26 9 17 26 -14 14
2011-12 Regular Season Peterborough Petes 65 30 40 70 -19 21

Petes have/had issues. Many improtant players got traded. Quine is one of the best skaters in OHL so he gets big advantage from Belleville home ice that is like international ice, if I have understood correctly. Needs to see this kid do well in AHL before making my mind on him. Guess he could become bottom 6er but we'll see. Not sold yet.

Philippe Hudon
2012-13 Victoriaville, Tigres 65 15 20 35 -1 63
2011-12 Victoriaville, Tigres 34 3 2 5 -3 29

I don't think he's getting contract.

Xavier Ouellet
2012-13 Blainville-Boisbriand, Armada 50 10 31 41 14 44
2011-12 Blainville-Boisbriand, Armada 63 21 39 60 16 67

Clearly past he's prime.

Martin Frk
2012-13 Halifax, Mooseheads 56 35 49 84 31 84
2011-12 Halifax, Mooseheads 34 16 13 29 -9 41

Frk bounced back as we hoped, but didn't produce too well when he played without Nate and Drouin; though reports tell that he wasn't just a passenger in that line. But wasn't stellar at WJCs.

Needs to improve skating more. AHL bound next season. This season was solid overall but needs to continue progressing. Might be rough one next year as Griffins are rather deep.

Interesting to see what these kids can do in the playoffs, esp. the last two. And Athanasiou, I think he was scratched last year with London.

Yes but thing is will he come? He and/or Wings may value WCs over AHL playoffs.

Well the Griffins really haven't had this kind of team to consider this move with lately also.

I think it comes down to roles and overall health. See no benefit in having him sit around for a month unless he is hurt. Especially not if all Jarnkrok gets is a third or fourth line role at the WC. Will he get a top 6 role with team Sweden? He can play top 6 minutes and adjust to NA hockey, while playing on a Calder Cup favorite and learning to play with a lot of his future teammates. This isn't like he would be on a line of vets getting it done in the AHL, while GR's vets have been pretty good, Jarnkrok would likely team up with guys that have a future in the organization as those are the players really driving the run down there.

The swedish national team doesn't really have the "top6 Forward , top4 D" system, they basically all get the same icetime, unless they're down a goal halfway into the 3rd period, they go down and play 3 lines.

Swedish national team = Socialists ^^;

 Well he didn't play a ton last year but that was to be expected. Was disappointing as a Wings fan that has seen him play a couple times and was hoping a lot of other people would see more of him. Did some playing up the lineup in the build up and looked impressive.

As you said in the other thread, I don't think a lot of people know how good he really is. There is a reason Hakan Andersson is nuts about this kid, he never fails to impress. He and his cousin are amazing and should be Swedish National teamers for years to come.

I still think it is best he moves over, after a couple weeks of adjusting he probably will be our best forward in the AHL playoffs. Better than both Nyquist and Tatar. We will see but I have a feeling if they do bring him over this kids hype machine is going to take off in an absolutely huge way when people get to see more of him.

It is hard to get a hold of the SEL and some of the EHTs, but every time I have seen one he jumps out in a really impressive way. I am a big believer, he is a poor mans Backstrom.

I think it end sup depending on his injury status. Instead of taking a bunch of time off from now to the WC I think he would be better suited in the AHL. The Griffins look stacked, if Jarnkrok comes over they would be nasty.

Nyquist Jarnkrok Tatar would be devastating

I'm all for younger guys playing in international competitions in most cases but I do think Jarnkrok can benefit by getting accustomed to the smaller sheet of ice. So hopefully he comes over and plays for the Griffins.

He was a +3 while they gave up four even strenght goals. 22:22 icetime and played on the 2nd PP unit.

I watched a little bit of that game, which would be my 4th or 5th time watching Backman, and while he never looks bad one thing I noticed is a lot of the time he is hesitant to pin a guy against the boards and battle for the puck in the defensive zone, he just kind of trails them and tries to make a steal with his stick. The dude has got to be a little more aggressive in the defensive zone.

Backman looked good today, have thought all year he has gained a step in his skating. He is a keeper, really a pleasure to watch. Was a pretty exciting game too.

I thought his skating looked pretty smooth at times today, something that never stood out to me before.

I was just reading his bio on redwingscentral before I read your post. In his weaknesses it reads "Finesse player who is not even remotely physical — he has been credited with almost no hits in Swedish Elite League play"
