It is basically one person but they are really loud.
My theory about drafting: as you noticed from the NBA draft, when selecting players, I look at:
1. Big picture - where's the league going? How will the game be played in 4-5 yrs?
2. Team - where is the team in the cycle? Rebuild? Contending? Adjusting?
3. Talent - this is obvious. Pick the player with the best value.
4. Need - this is roster mgmt. Pick players who fit the system & teammates.
Hence, it's obvious the league is moving towards highly skilled speedy DMen. Like it or not, the Hawks are kind of on a rebuild. Our DMen are kind of slow and can't QB the power play.
In the last 2 drafts, the Hawks have loaded up in skilled speedy DMen. Tonight, they rolled the dice with a potential Norris Trophy calibre prospect. High risk / high reward. It makes sense. And considering DMen take far longer to develop that forwards, it's logical to stock talented DMen first.
The reason why I questioned the pick of Wendell Carter last night ... I don't understand the Bulls long term strategy. The League is heading towards positionless athletic wings and they pick an old school center. With both Carter and Markannen on the floor, will they be able to defend isos and pick & rolls? They are not rim protectors. Finally, if the Bulls are rebuilding, why not take roll the dice on a high risk / high reward pick vs. the safe pick?
I get what the Hawks are thinking. I'm not so certain about the Bulls. They are just so scared to make mistakes. The Hawks are gambling to win championships. It feels like the Bulls are trying to be the 4 or 5 seed every year.
