Sandin is Riely replacement I hope!
If Rielly's $$$ ask is steep then they may want to just run with Sandin or find a stop gap.

Funny enough, Giordano's contract expires the same offseason Rielly's does. He's from Toronto, may be hungry for a cup run with his hometown team at that time in his career where he's had barely any playoff success in his long tenure with Calgary. He'd be a great fit for the penalty kill, defensive situations, powerplay (he's got a cannon from the point too), and of course we all know he'd fit in perfectly beside Brodie if it's not Sandin there by that time.

One would think that with the breakout season Fox is having, people would place less emphasis on a defender’s physical tools and more on whether or not they can play the game. Sandin, at the bare minimum, has the capability of a PP QB. His passing ability and field general like vision allows him to optimize breakouts. This added dimension complements really well with the other defenders on the team who primarily rush the puck up the ice as opposed to making crisp stretch passes. Forechecks will undoubtedly be keying in on him and forcing his partner to make puck decisions more and more which might have actually exposed Bogosian’s puck moving skills had he been paired with him. Give the kid a partner that is mobile and the Leafs breakouts are set.

He's really smart out there. Needs to polish up the defensive side of the game, he's still getting hammered in defensive metrics, but he's got big league poise with the puck and is already as smart as any of our D in the offensive zone. None of our current defenders have the ability to break down a defense from the point, giving that tool to our elite forwards will pay massive dividends.

I really like his mobility at the blue line on the PP. Rielly has been really stagnant at the point this year, which is odd because his whole career he's been like a man possessed moving his feet and opening up lanes on the PP. Sandin looked really effective last night with the man advantage and I'd like to see him get some reps with PP1.

Looked really poised last night, and showcased his offensive ability and mobility.

Still needs to work on getting stronger as he looked overmatched in the corners against bigger players, but he is noticeably stronger on his skates so that will come with time.

Considering how few games he's played in the last year, that's great to see.

The best thing about his progression is that Rielly becomes a trade asset before the expansion draft.

You don't even need to find a high end replacement for Rielly. He useless defensively and most of the time he makes more mistakes than offence.

Why would Fox demonstrate that point when smart but smallish defensemen who are dynamite in transition is basically a standard player type in the game? Based on the fact that Toronto drafted Sandin and also a host of even smaller defensemen I don’t think the Leafs need to be convinced.

Kid looks legit growth, and adds some badly needed puck moving.

I doubt he comes out of the lineup again. Maybe ever.
He will come out unfortunately due to a lack of foot speed as 4 Jets caught him coming back ice to his defensive end on 6 different occasions last night .. he simply has a short stride on can't keep up from his own blue line to da goal line .. but barb should be able to fix it ... he has every other skill needed to be a top line D man in league but it is a cRITICAL skill he is still lacking .. good on Dermy to see it and cover it up .. but even still was our best pair last night .. da guy is so so smart once he has puck and makes right call every time

Had Sandin not been injured he would have been Bogos partner all season long.

Wrong ... he will replace Rielly one day .. but he can't even keep up to Bogo and Bogo is slow ... Dermy is showing everyone past 5-6 games who are BEST defender is

Dermy really is an incredible skater. Just has so much mobility on the ice. I just want to see him keep developing properly.
Me too ... I think he can get a few games with Muzzy this season .. let Sandin play with Bogo when he is back .. Sandin likely will be heir apparent to Rielly if he can improve his foot speed .. Holl needs to sit .. that way both Dermy and Sandin can get development this year .. we need all these d to be ready for playoffs ... if we go deep we will need 9 guys just watch

never Before!! ...trade him before, and you need to protect/risk losing what you just got

Sandin has had a very nice start to his play with the Leafs. He's a long way to go to show he should be a regular. 3 weeks ago, Campbell was a god, the last week he was a step away from the outhouse.

What a talent. Kid hasn’t played pro hockey in how long? 2 games back from injury and he’s a beast with the poise of a 10 yr vet. Exciting future

In his defence Winnipeg is a huge team up front and the smaller guys they have are fast, not an easy team for any dman let alone a rookie
