Rank the players on your team by skating ability using the following tiers...

5. Well above average (great speed, great edge work)

3. Average (good speed and good edge work)

Don't really know any team well enough to put a full roster rankings. But I'm really interested to see how fans see Kapanen, Ehlers, Barzal, Barkov, Laine, Pastarnak and Rantanen.

Not gonna get into too many players but my favorite skaters in terms of ability are
Eichel, mcdavid, jeff skinner, Nylander, marner, mackinnon, gardiner, E.karlsson, and PK subban. All of whom i consider 5/5. Subban doesnt quite have the straight line speed but his agility is unreal. Eichel is my fav of em though, great long strides that generate so much power .

crosby is definitely a 4, Good speed, Great edgework

Just like Subban, His elite edgework makes it look like he has elite speed, don't get me wrong he's above average but his speed is not in the elite tier

Oh and yeah Crosby > Subban edgework, just in case people start freaking out, Subban still does have elite edgework!

Its probably not a good thing when the Devils best skater in terms of edgework is Hischier. But in terms of speed the Devils are loaded with Hall, Wood, Hischier, Bratt, Coleman, and they had Grabner as well.

Oilers

McDavid - between 8 and the Millenium Falcon (ironic because we missed the playoffs by more than 12 parsecs)
Nurse - 5
RNH - 5
Draisaitl - 3.5 (slower but can't be knocked off the puck)
Kassian - 3 (underrated skater)
Klefbum - 3
Slepyshev - 3
Caggiula - 3
Larsson - 3
Khaira - 3
Strome - 2
Sekera - 2
Poolparty - 2
Russell - 2
Benning - 2
Gryba - 0
Lucic - (6)*

HM: Reinhart - (9000)**

* - brackets denote a minus....
** - no longer an oiler, but deserves a mention because watching him skate is like watching light try to escape a black hole.

Edit - I want to make RNH a 5. Skating is his best attribute I think. So I'm doing it; was previously a 4.

Kreider-5, one of the fastest guys in the league and especially at that size. Edgework isn’t 5 worthy but his speed is insane. Maybe a 4 will fit better idk
Zibanejad-4 pretty fast and he’s big as well so bonus points
Fast-4, not overly fast (lol) but he’s pretty quick and he’s a good skater
Chytil-5, really fast and good skater especially for his size
Andersson-2, decent top end speed but a pretty bad skater
Buchnevich-3
Hayes-2
Vesey-3
Zucc-4
Skjei-5
Pionk-3
Deangelo-4
Staal-1
O Gara-1
Gilmour-10 (probably one of the best skaters in the league)
Shatty-3
Smith-3

I think some of the 5's are just being tossed out because they're fast, good skaters. Kreider's edge work isn't a 5 in my opinion, neither is Gilmour, or Skjei. They might be a 4 because they're great at one and good at the other, but not great at both.

We'll allow it but we all know he's not. :)

Maatta might be the slowest skater in the league.

Hawks:
Saad - 3
Toews - 3
Hinostroza - 4 (great speed)
DeBrincat - 2
Schmaltz - 3
Kane - 4 (super agile)
Duclair - 4
Anisimov - 2
Sharp - 2 (age)
Jurco - 3
Kampf - 2 (very average at everything)
Hayden - 2

Keith - 2 (age)
Oesterle - 2
Gustafsson - 2
Seabrook - 1
Rutta - 2
Murphy - 3 (good for a big guy)
Forsling - 2

I tried to use the whole scale, but they don't currently have the kind of speedsters like what Stalberg and Leddy were. Or Tony Salmelainen. Hinostroza is probably closest, he could be a 4.5.

At the end of a minute and a half shift for McDavid, with a better angle to the puck and McDavid still got a stick lift to prevent the shot.

But yeah he's a really good skater especially for his size.

Worst Case, Ontario
5 - Fowler
4 - Cogliano, Montour

A lot of 3s and 2s

1 - Perry

Also if 3 is supposed to be average I think a lot of folks are being too generous with their 5s and even their 4s.

I acknowledge that.
Btw, It was after a 40 second shift, not 1.5 min. I'm not saying he's faster than McDavid, because he isn't. Regardless, it's impressive, because I have never ever seen anyone blow by McDavid regardless of how tired he is.

If Virtanen only had some hockey IQ, he'd be a deadly player. Unfortunately....

I loved Grabs with us but giving him a 5 is a bit generous on the edge-work. I think Hall is absolutely up there, though.
