14th pick is easily the worst spot in the whole NHL to be. But at least it will show that our guys are capable of buckling down and making a push

I feel like we're probably going to end up in the same spot we are currently in, which would get us the 7th pick. I also don't think Murray will get the top line forward he wants to trade for, so at best we might go up a few spots since we're playing good hockey, which still allows us to draft 9th or 10th.

7th would be pretty damn good though, and there a lot of "impact" players around there.

Edit: And as was mentioned above, should we trade for an O'Reilly or Eberle, and end up picking 13-15th, that's a very good scenario as well.

2) if murray decides to sell and gets rid of old horses like Legwand, Phillips and Neil somehow, he'll only make this team better and will hurt draft chances

They just need to keep playing like they've been playing the last 20 games and focus on getting better, and forget about the draft and playoffs for now

The scouts' job is to get the best player available at the pick we'll have

The scouts' job is to get a good idea of who's going to be available once we make our pick

It doesn't matter who goes before us, what matters is that we make the best pick with what's available to us

Lol I was actually kidding but it really wasn't clear that I was. I think you're right, we should get a player with very high upside and lots of talent. All these character guys end up being support players more often than not.
