No mention AT ALL about Shatty not playing. I think its imperative for him and the Rangers to get him in game shape as he hasnt played a single minute since......what? Game 28 of last year? He not playing, raised my eyebrows.

Where is my cousin Vinny? Chytil? Fill me in guys. Is it for the obvious reason that you cant play everyone? And that they drew the short straw?

They'll all be in the next one, chill. That's how preseason works.

if quinn shows some patience with deangelo, were gonna have a gem.

his ability to control the puck, slow the game down, make smart plays in the offensive zone and move the puck with purpose is top end. hes a gamer and will play it tough as well. hes gonna be a player.

his mind just flows with his hands.

quinn is a better coach for this kid. AV was toxic with any kids who showed a flair. guys like buchnevich and ADA will benefit from being away from AV.

looking forward to ADA making a statement this season.
This. Sprang Schneider for a breakup, nice play on the 3rd goal. The points will come. I’d like to see him get his shots off a bit faster, but he’s one of the most talented guys we have back there.

Cleasson impressed me a bit.

They'll play Wednesday

It's fine, they have a roster right now with enough guys for 3 teams

Guys, a little perspective please. It's the first preseason game.
Yes, some of the guys looked better than they have in the past, but we should wait for a larger sample size before making a final judgement.
ADA looked good, but I'm not ready to coronate the guy. By the same token, Pionk has looked better, but I'll give him a pass based on his play against the oppositions top lines last season.
Look, O'Gara even looked like a legit NHL defenseman. Anyone ready to slot him in to the opening day line up?

Hopefully,Boo Nieves is OK. He has had concussion issues in the recent past. Boo suffered a concussion a few years ago at Traverse City. He had another concussion in Hartford that season.

DeAngelo was awful. I swear, it's like this board is trying to will a bad player into being good. Pionk has been so much better than DeAngelo it's almost to the point now where it is comical. I hope Gorton packages DeAngelo soon and gets him out of here. You points on Pionk are completely wrong. He was in the right position all night. On the first goal it was 100% McLeod's fault. Pionk had his man on the boards. McLeod being the imbecile his is didn't even bother to cover his man down the wing. DeAngelo spent the game as he always does. Making stupid passes from behind the net down the center of the ice.

I think you hate him so much, that regardless of how well he plays you won't give him any credit. Same goes for Buch.

ADA made some very nice crisp passes last night. He didn't get too many opportunities in his own zone to show if he's improved his defense. Most importantly though, for an offensive dmen, he wasn't a liability out there. I watched the game and then I watched the replay. You're spewing nonsense. You're so off right now it's flat out embarrassing.

I think you're stuck in the 90's dude. Wake up. You need skilled players if you want to produce. You're not going to win with a bunch of Marcel Hossa's and Dave Karpa's in today's game.

All things being equal between the 2 "just for last nights game", had it been ADA tapping in that winner, he would have been unanimously better than Pionk. ADA was much more noticeable, but that doesnt mean Pionk wasnt good. We need stability in the dzone and maybe Pionk provided that? I mean he was with Marc a great deal, right? And c'mon guys get real......it was only their 1st game.

This is why I say 6 games really isnt enough to fully evaluate what you have. What if a player has a mild flu and cannot be 100%? Would a player hide that or a mild injury for fear of NOT playing?
Not sure what you’re going on about, never said Pionk had a bad game, thought he was good as well.

I don't see Boo making it here. I think he'll get bumped off the roster by better players that can skate with their head up.

Still don't really understand how Boo takes a headshot when McLeod is in the lineup. What do you think?

It's the preseason. Players are willing to be a bit more risky and play over the edge to try and make the team and lock down an NHL contract even with a deterrent in the lineup.

Not sure there is some big breakout coming for Kreider. He’s 27. His career high in goals is 28 and points is 53. More likely expectation is more like 20 goals and 45 points. It’s just who he is.

It’s too bad because we all thought he had star potential back in the day.

I don't care about what the vets did last night so I won't mention them.

Boo wasn't good. He was outplayed by Fogarty who was making smart, simple, sometimes sneaky plays and skating really hard. Not sure either of them can grab the 4C spot but there's still time. If Fogarty keeps playing, and keeps playing the way he did, he could conceivably do it.

Lindqvist gave himself no chance to really shine. I got pissy with him getting voted ahead of Virta in the prospect poll because while Lindqvist is certainly worth taking a shot on, everything I've read and seen makes me think he profiles as a smallish PP specialist, and I don't even know if he can succeed on the PP here how he did in Sweden now that he has smaller ice and less time. He should get another couple games, though, because if he doesn't make it he's essentially gone.

Lias was great in all facets. Not much needs to be said.

Meskanen has a good stick and good hands. He's also bigger and stronger than I had anticipated. I'd like to see him more.

Gettinger looked like Gettinger looked in Juniors, to a large degree. That's good, as he wasn't over his head. I was relieved that his skating seemed to hold up. If he can improve that even a little he can be a good third liner. Real strong, particularly on the forecheck.

I though Pionk and DeAngelo were pretty even. Both showed some of the good, and the bad. Pionk was out of position a couple times. DeAngelo I though made some risky plays, including the pass from behind our net, and still frustrated me with his shot. Otherwise they both looked fine. If it's one against the other for a spot, I don't know. Even though I think Pionk is/will be the better player I'd almost say you have to give it to ADA since he has to pass through waivers and Pionk doesn't.

O'Gara got better, and by the end he looked perfectly adequate. I said the same about his game last year--started off poorly, finished pretty okay. I also said in a system other than AV's, he could be a useful 6/7 defenseman.

Lindgren looked pretty good to me. He was moving around real well, showing his physicality, showed good awareness and positioning, and just looked like an overall solid player. Very happy with what he showed.

Agreed on both. Give Gettinger at least a full season in Hartford. Meskanen can help the Rangers this year.

Hall scored 93 points last season and he needs to prove himself?

Then your comparing him to Kreider?

See how silly that sounds?

You manage to come up with more bull**** excuses than any other poster on here.

Silly but true story..

No matter which way you spin it, getting on a vet who’s proven himself to be a capable beast 1st line scorer for taking it easy in the first preseason game, is the ridiculousness here. I don’t want Kreider going full throttle in the first preseason game I’m sorry. You want more out of Kreider in the reg season? Fair enough. But then wait for the reg season to assess and complain.

I DVR'd the game to watch it a second time, and I have to say that I didn't see any of what you're talking about. IMO DeAngelo was our best Dman last night, and at worst our 4th best player.

Admittedly I'm not a great judge of defensemen but tradenashnow seems to think that if you're a stay at home defenseman you're automatically good at defense and if you're not you automatically suck. It's incredibly deep analysis.
