Here's a brief list of some current NHL players who spent some time in the AHL before making the NHL, or who were up and down between the NHL and AHL their first couple of seasons.

Some recent comparables:
Giroux - 33 GP, 17 G, 17 A

StK, Giroux is the guy I think of as a comparable (optimistically) for Strome. Their career numbers overall are pretty comparable (draft years in bold).

GIROUX:
2008-09 Philadelphia AHL 33 17 17 34
2007-08 Gatineau QMJHL 55 38 68 106
2006-07 Gatineau QMJHL 63 48 64 112
2005-06 Gatineau QMJHL 69 39 64 103

STROME:
2013-14 Bridgeport AHL 17 4 15 19
2012-13 Niagara OHL 53 34 60 94
2011-12 Niagara OHL 46 30 38 68
2010-11 Niagara OHL 65 33 73 106

Giroux`s legend grew by leaps and bounds in 08 when he had a record setting playoffs something like 50 points in 18 or 19 games....I see Strome being a player like Eberle or Giroux in the long run but we will see. IMO outside of Nelson , he is the only real valuble forward prospect. Lee needs to show a ton more

What's wrong with Kyle Turris? Pretty darn productive player.

There's nothing wrong with Kyle Turris other than the fact that I would not have spent a 5th overall selection on him. If Strome ends up being nothing better that Turris, you'll be satisfied? I want...we need...Strome to be better than that. He is the only blue chip talent that we have at forward (I think Nelson will be good; I just am not sure how high his offensive ceiling is). Sure, someone else could out-perform him, but he is our best bet to have another stud at forward. I would not call Turris a stud. Now, if you told me that Bailey would be as good as Turris, at this point, I might be satisfied with that.

They even like to setup in the same spot, particularly on the PP. The one edge I've always felt Giroux had over Strome is his goal scoring. Watching them both in junior, Giroux just looked like a more dangerous goal scorer to me whenever they were on the ice. At the pro level (so far, in an admittedly small sample size), it's looking as though that remains the case.

Giroux, stylistically, is Strome's uttermost upside. That is, if every single thing goes right, and every single part of his game develops as expected. But the caution in that is, it's one thing to hope he could max out as Giroux, but it's another to expect it. There's just as much a chance he does round out more like a Turris or a Gagner than a Giroux.

And I find that as a fan, it's better to expect a Turris/Gagner and be pleasantly surprised when he turns into Giroux, rather than expecting Giroux and being disappointed when he's "only" a Turris/Gagner.

Turris has been pretty great this year. I watch a lot of Sens games because i absolutely love to watch Karlsson play and i have Karlsson & Zibanejad in my Keeper League. Anyway Turris is one of the best players on the ice every game i watch. He is really starting to hit his stride, guy was a total late bloomer.

If Strome turns out like the Turris of today i would be okay with that. Similar body types and playing styles, both rightys. Not sure if Strome is as good a skater as Turris... Turris is a beautiful skater.

Yeah, it's one thing to say styles and early production match, and another thing to say an unproven kid is going to develop into a great player like Giroux. So I'll hope to be pleasantly surprised as you said. I have read that Strome is trying to put a lot of focus into his all-around play this year in the AHL, which could affect his goal totals. But he does seem to be more of a playmaker than a goalscorer, and nothing wrong with that.

I'm with you. I think the comparison between Turris and Strome is much closer than Giroux, and that doesn't bother me. I don't think it's going to take Strome quite as long as it took Turris to develop, because Strome played against higher levels of competition throughout junior and wasn't rushed early like Turris was.

Turris is a better finisher (he has sick hands in tight), but Strome could be a better passer. Otherwise, their skillsets are similar.

Just goes to show - Turris was traded for Rundblad and a 2nd. For years people thought Phoenix "won" that trade. Now...

Waited several weeks for tonight, heading out to see Erie and Mississauga tonight and watch Pelech and McDavid. I will not be able to post any scores tonight so please feel to do so. I will give a Pelech scouting report Saturday afternoon when I return home. If I get back to the hotel early enough, will try a post something.

I bet the Isles would lose to Bridgeport at the moment. Strome would record a hatrick tbh.
