I was just coming to post about Puistola. Getting 1st/2nd line minutes and starts to score. Who'd a thunk it.

Also, Jack Drury now with 7 points in 6 games....and of course David Cotton producing, essentially picking up where he left off last season.

Has anyone seen how Gauthier's looked like in the AHL? I think he wasn't really given enough of a chance when the season started and would like to see him get some more minutes up with the big club, especially now that Haula's out for longer. I thought he worked hard and looked hungry in the limited minutes he was given previously, and a RHS power forward to park in front of the net is something the Canes dont have at this time.

Center out, center in. Luostarinen has been decent as the 4C while Wallmark is filling in for Haula as 3C.

Only way for Gauthier to get his chance right now is if Marty plays 4C and that way one winger spot opens up.

Pronman has Rees as one of his risers since the draft.

Pronman: Biggest risers from the 2019 NHL Draft
Pronman: Biggest risers from the 2019 NHL Draft

Jamieson Rees, C, Carolina
Drafted: No. 44 overall
Rees doesn’t quite fit into the criteria outlined above. I don’t think he would go 30 full spots higher than on draft day, but he would be in the mix to be a first-round pick, which is notable. Rees, when he has been on the ice and not suspended, has been dominant. He’s full of skill while playing a very hard nose game. He gets to the net through his ability to dangle defenders and his will. He’s a very smart player, too. His skating is still average, but how consistent his playmaking and chance creation has been in the tough areas has impressed scouts a lot.

Or maybe Gauthier needs to be the best player in Charlotte before worrying about him "not getting enough of a chance" with the Canes?

Yeah well since I haven't seen him play in the AHL, I asked in this thread if anyone else has. Like I said in my post, he last played at the start of season, and back then there were no best or worst players in Charlotte or anything in between, there was just training camp.

Well, you stated he wasn't given much of a chance and you would like to see him get more minutes with the big club, which implied (at least to me) that you were stating he deserved more of a chance. That's fine to have that view so nothing wrong with that, I just don't see it that way. In training camp, we only see a fraction of what goes on and while he played well in some pre-season games, it's just that, pre-season where a lot of vets aren't even in the game or trying. Even with that, he didn't light up the scoreboard in pre-season.

Don't get me wrong, I want Gauthier to be successful, just want him to show he can dominate the AHL before giving him more minutes at the NHL level.

@Boom Boom Apathy Ah, my apologies. I don't think he deserved anything based on those two games he had with the Canes or with Charlotte for that matter, I was more lamenting the fact that he was given such little time with the big club I didn't really get to see much of what he can do outside the work ethic, and would like to see him given some opportunity, provided he has played well.

I haven't watched much of Charlotte this year, but caught a live game in Hershey last weekend. The whole team wasn't great, and it was only one game, but Gauthier looked to me like he did up here. Bull dozed his way to the net with a power move around a defender a couple of times and then slid it into the waiting pad of the goalie. I hope he puts it all together at some point, but I'm still skeptical.

Full disclosure, there's another interesting name on this list:

Nicholas Robertson, LW, Toronto
Drafted: No. 53 overall
Robertson, like Rees, is not a player I think would go a full 30 spots higher, but he might come close and be a late first candidate. He came out of the gates scorching hot, scoring over a goal a game in the OHL before he broke a finger a few weeks ago. His skill, hockey sense, shot and compete level are all very good and led to him making a consistent impact on games. Scouts generally have been very impressed by him. It hasn’t been universal praise; while his skating stride has improved, it’s not great for a player his size, and some scouts think he plays a bit reckless. With that said, it’s hard to ignore his skill and goal-scoring, and how he’s played at both the U20 camps in the summer and early on in the OHL.

LOL. Typical HF, hyping up prospects to unrealistic expectations. He’s got a long way to go to come close to being the next David Cotton. Stop putting unrealistic expectations on the kid.
What do you mean....I saw the kid in camp, twice...no 3 times....he's got a chance....he could be a contender, I tell ya....he's fits the David Cotton mold.....or maybe I'm just trying to stay in character...

Sweet, can't wait to see him light it up for the Checkers while guys like Foegele and McGinn are gifted spots in the NHL because they're gritty and skate hard or something.

How quickly we forget.

McGinn had 19G, 35 points in 48 games in his 2nd season the AHL before even getting a sniff in the NHL. He then started off with 5G and 8P in 9 games in his 3rd AHL season before jumping to the NHL for good.

Foegele had 28G(none on the PP) in the AHL before making the NHL.

Which AHLr is lighting it up for the Checkers so much so that they deserve an NHL spot over those guys? Brian Gibbons leads the team in PPG.

Maybe you should wait until some player actually “lights it up in the AHL”, or at least scores more than Brian Gibbons, before whining about how unjustly they are being treated.

There aren't even any guys I'm really seeing on the Checkers that deserve a shot...everyone has been pretty awful. Listerine proved worthy callup (and he's been a rare bright spot) but definitely needs more development, McKeown is still pretty solid as a potential injury fill-in, Bean would be a choice to try in Gardiner's place but has been brutal at times (he took over the "Carrick failure at holding the blueline" job), Geekie is the only other guy but he is still probably a year away with development from being more than a callup. Goat, Kooks, and Priskie have been solid but unspectacular (it's hard to have an individual impact when the whole team is disjointed though)...though I will say Goat was battling hard to make things happen and powering past guys, he just had 0 help from anyone.
