If I could acquire 2006-era Pronger for a similar cost in the same situation, knowing he'd ask for a trade out in a year no matter what, but we'd still have contract term on him to fetch a nice return ... I'd acquire him no questions asked 100/100 times.

It's like a Raptors fan saying they regret getting Kawhi Leonard because he didn't want to stay with them. It's nonsensical.

Interesting tidbit about him nearly ending up in Toronto.

Kaberle, Stajan and two firsts he said, Lowe wanted Steen instead of Stajan.

I'd argue that those firsts weren't a part of the deal. Things would've turned out very differently had that deal gone down.

One game that was a coin flip, so what. And the only reason the Raptors won is because they got a miracle in Durant and Klay both injuring themselves lets be honest, the only reason we didn't win that Final is because of the Roloson injury and even then they damn near won it.

I'd do that Pronger trade over 100/100 times, even knowing he'd want out within a year.

Where is Eric Brewer taking you? Nowhere.

Also this puts a pretty big slant on the whole "your locker room needs to have perfect harmony!" nonsense. Pronger didn't even want to be here, Torres and Stoll were acting problematically, yet that group had more success than any other Oilers team in 30 years.

he's probably a good teammate though...locker room "issues" are always blown out of proportion

I think if that deal was on the table, Lowe would have taken it and ran. Kaberle was not Pronger at the time, but still a legitimate No.1 puck moving defensemen. Stajan had a solid career too.

he was good on ice. there was no way that bunch of players would have gotten to the final without the asshole)) In my experience playing competitive soccer, I recall more than one team mate with questionable ethics, but it's never a factor on the field. You don't have to be friends with anybody, you have to get the job done where it matters.

Anyone else listen to it?

Has some interesting things to say about his time in Edmonton.

Liked the team, had to settle down Stoll and Torres throughout the year.

Asked for a trade because he was sold a bill of goods that wasn’t delive red whatever that means.

Great player but comes across as a douche as a person.

The Bill of good was that the oiler said his wife would like it in Edmonton and she did not. That is the bill of goods he is talking about

Stoll and Torres we already knew

There were no locker room issues with Chris Pronger.

Oilers fans like to believe that since they don't like him that he was somehow also unpopular among his teammates.

Doesn't have to be harmony. Listen to him talk about culture/leadership from about 1:13:30 onwards. https://player.fm/series/spittin-chiclets-1550122/spittin-chiclets-episode-249-ft-chris-pronger

It's about accountability and professionalism. Guys holding each other accountable to certain standards. Supporting and encouraging one another.

Here's an article in the archives

PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines.

Kevin Lowe and the Chris Pronger deal: "I trust Kevin Lowe."

- Cal Nichols advocating divorce and makes it clear it was Lauren who wanted out.
- TSN out of respect for the Oilers request, did not report on the Pronger trade request until after the Stanley Cup finals were over (to not be a distraction).
- Pronger and his wife took the guaranteed money, which at that time was one of the highest salaries after the new CBA. They came in here not knowing much about the city.

__________

- Somewhat respect Chris for not throwing his wife under the bus - unlike Bryan Colangelo.
- That said, Chris has smeared the city, including making false allegation of a jersey burning party since.

Man, 14 years and he still can't say why he left.
Guess I'll take it to the grave.
I bet it sucks to have to remember the same lie for that long.

Said players decided a mass exodus after the best defenseman in the NHL demanded a trade 4 days after being eliminated in game 7 of the Stanley cup final. Had Pronger not nailed the team would have remained mostly intact.
Not so sure about that. I doubt Samsonov or Spacek ever would have re-signed.

Pronger is a dick, but if he wanted a professional working environment I can totally see him wanting out. Management wasn't professional and obviously guys like Torres were into some stuff they should not have been.

Pronger took 4 teams to the SCF, winning one cup in Anaheim.

That’s f***ing incredible.

Well, if he lost in anaheim, he would have been called the biggest choker in the history of professional sports)) I don't what he's like as a person, and, frankly, who cares. He was one of the best, if not the best defensemen in the past 20 years. Maybe Lidstrom was as good, but I would still take Pronger.

His wife had taken the kids and moved back to St. Louis without him. He was a jerk and there were rumours that he was not the best husband in the world to put it mildly, but he basically did it to keep his family together. If he had been honest about that at the time I would have been a lot more sympathetic.

Most of you guys are too you g to remember but there were a lot of rumors about him cheating on his wife. Him and Marty reasoner had quite the bar hopping reputation back then.

Funny how he brings up Stoll and Torres. Pronger was really no different.
100% correct. Insider information confirmed.

Weird that Pronger's "issues" led him out of edmonton, but not, supposedly, out of St. Louis...
