i really think carrick needs one more year. let him grow a little bit more until we don't need TVR because he will get angry if he gets scratched. TVR i would love to keep as a 7th d-man but he is to good for that role and he probably knows it. Carrick let him season in the AHL for one more year and i think he could be our 6th d-man instead of a scratch. I really don't think that would be good for his growth if we keep him as a scratch up in the NHL Level.

it could affect the locker room chemistry. I seriously think that next year i think that we are going to trade TVR and let Bean Mckeowen and Carrick fight over that spot.

Yeah TVR has anger problems. Definitely don't want to set him off. SebastianAhoe you're a smart man sometimes. Best just keep him on the ice so he doesn't rage against the rest of the lockeroom.

you guys love being sarcastic with me don't you

Fair enough.

If we send Carrick down, he will have to go through waivers. And, because there are several teams that need defensemen, he would probably get claimed. That's why people want to keep him here. Even if it's as a 7D, it's better than losing him for nothing.

Yep. And.....TVR is a right hand D, and Peter's loves keeping a LHD-RHD pairing, so unless there is a big difference in players, he'll keep that.

Also, Canes traded a 2nd round pick to acquire TVR. There's no way that after a week of training camp and a couple pre-season games they are already planning on trading him after the season is over. How he plays this year will determine his fate at season's end.

BTW...Slavin looked like garbage last night. Not worried about it, but he was uncharacteristically bad.

There's going to be a bunch of NHL dmen being waived in Las Vegas. I bet someone in Carrick's position should have little trouble slipping through before the season starts.

The situation with Carrick is interesting. It's not a game-breaking type decision, but that's one of those little things that can make the difference down the road, in terms of being able to survive runs of injury. It would be nice not to lose the depth we took so long to build up.

For me it's just a matter of Dahlbeck having served his purpose here. Carrick is 23 years old, past the point in his career where it'd be a shame if he sat on the bench as a 7th defenseman. Dahlbeck got us through the expansion draft, and should be in the same position as everyone else now. The only difference is him having a one-way deal, but that ends up being around a $600k difference in real cash. Not nothing, but I'd hope not enough to risk losing Carrick for nothing.

What is being assumed in all this is that Carrick is relatively equal to Dhalbeck on ice. That may or may not be the case as I haven't seen enough of Carrick to know one way or another. I realize it's only a #7, but history has shown that a #7 will probably get 30-40 games so they can't take too much risk here.

For the record: I don't think Carrick is ever going to become more than a bottom pairing defenseman. He's not the best asset we have.

That said, if he's a real NHLer, one that can fill the bottom pair on the left side, that does all the more to make one of Hanifin/Fleury/Bean available next offseason.

Even bottom pair guys are valuable when they are home-grown, young, controllable assets. We just paid a 2nd for TVR. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that Carrick's ceiling is somewhere around there, even still as a 23-year-old.

Slavin was also playing RD all night. It seemed like every shift he had a new partner, partially due to Fleury getting a 10 minute misconduct.
