Gabriel, woof.

Glad I didn't bother heading out to Brooklyn for this game. Don't miss Lou's stupid facial hair rules at all either. Not allowing Clutterbuck to wear his awesome mustache isn't going to make him a better player.

Would anything make Clutterbuck a better player? Other than maybe signing in a lesser league?

Gabriel is a terrible player but I don't blame him for trying to get someone to drop the gloves. It's his only chance at getting noticed.

Martin should have obliged to give him a chance

Ray needs to send him to Bing in the morning

I don't blame Martin for not fighting him, why waste a fight on a guy who has no shot at making an NHL team?

The only good thing about tonight for me :

This was a Preseason game and I got to see further development from the young players.:clap::clap:

Don't ask me about Sam Darnold and the Jets, though. :baghead:

Really liked some moments from the young guys even though it was an awful game. aside from the penalties Zacha looked really good, spinning off the wall, sheilding the puck and driving the net for chances. also had a couple great passes showing off that vision. McCleod was good again, using that speed, tenacity and playmaking ability for the second game. Studenic is impressing me more and more, nice blend of speed and skill there. Q looks quicker, better off the puck. Seney is a zone entry machine. I kind of like Yakovlevs game. Nothing really special, but smooth and consistent, can move the puck and skate well

I was also really impressed by Yakovlev. Don't think he made a mistake all night. Great positioning, great decision making, very mobile, and a little scrappy too.

Not surprised by the result given the lineup we dressed last night. Would have been nice to score a goal though lol

What was our preseason record last year?

It was pretty good 5-1-1, the guys actually competed last season and our young players were as advertised. It carried over to a great start of the season which is ultimately why we made the playoffs over Florida.

This season, outside of our top line, I'm scared. I don't think this is a playoff team and thats 100% on Shero. It's going to suck taking a step back this season.

Sounds to me like through 3 games, Q, Lappin and McLeod are leading the pack for any potential open forward spots.

The team may have a tough decision on Santini if he keeps up his dissapointing play.

He got a 10 minute misconduct. He wanted to fight, but no one took him up on it.
i think martin goaded him to drop the gloves - he's a vet who has that experience. i think i even saw martin throw his right glove down.

i guess i can't blame him for simply dropping gloves - none of us thought it'd result in a 10 min misconduct

Usually I still want to see wins in the pre-season... but when we're missing Hall, Hischier, Bratt, Palmieri, Mojo, Noesen, Vatanen, Greene, Mueller..... I'm not worried about it haha. I though Zacha showed some confidence which was nice to see. Also, Butcher looks real good.

Preseason hockey is the worst anyway. It's barely hockey as it is with the amount of penalties that get called as the refs "warm up" as well.

As much as I love this sport and miss it when the season ends, I couldn't care less about preseason games. I tend to go to them because they're cheap and, in cases like last year, you get to see your first glimpse of guys like Nico or Hall the year before that.

Last preseason our vets didnt coast and the prospects had more skill
We had a lot of jobs up for grabs last season and the attitude was that Shero and Hynes would ship out anyone who they thought wasn't putting effort in. This year we've been playing much weaker teams so far to look at organizational depth and the "shape up or f*** off" policy isn't needed.

i wonder what the narrative around here would be if nobody pushed back last night. it’s a preseason game, coming off a playoff series where we got absolutely dominated physically...i’m glad gabriel did what he did. the game’s result was meaningless, but i’m pretty sure matt martin got the message.

Those prospects are second year players now and still in the lineup. I don’t think the prospects are the issue so much as the number of guys having to establish themselves or fight for space in the pecking order. The team is much more set this year which is both good and bad for preseason. I agree that the sense of urgency for a number of guys to make the team or get a spot in the lineup isn’t what it was last year.
