I've watched a few neutral preseason games and it does appear teams are loading up the home game rosters for some reason... fans?

Yes. That and the "prime" players probably get a little say as to which games (and how many) they'd like to play, and they'd probably rather play home. For example, Rask has a place in the Boston area - going to Chicago is a step down for him. Legace is in a shared hotel whether he's in Boston or Chicago, I imagine.

You have to handicap preseason games. It's good for seeing how the young'uns are, but as far as real hockey, I don't care. The only "result" I care about is NO DAMN INJURIES.
