Sharks could certainly use Craig Smith but I'm not sure it's worth the assets at this point.

Smith is playing too well right now for any immediate consideration of a trade. He has been one of our most consistent workers all season long, one of the guys we would always leave out of our lamentations about the team's performance... and that was even before he got his scoring back on pace. Preds still have to invest the next few weeks in seeing if they can turn the ship around under the new coaches. If they can't, then Smith would very likely become available at the deadline. That's still a ways off, though.

It's not a haul to take on Backes' $6M hit for next season. If the Preds become sellers they can retain on impending-UFAs. But Poile isn't going to take on contract dumps for 2020-21 from other teams.

Rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. I would do the Granlund swap if we can't get a 2nd for him.

A few days ago a Washington fan offered Colorado's 2nd + Lucas Johansen for Smith. I like that deal and would try something like that rather than 1-1 for Galchenyuk.
