I really hope Rasmussen doesn't make the Red Wings. His net-front game is terrific, but he really struggles with the puck on his stick. If he stays in Detroit, he's likely going to play limited 5 on 5 minutes and be pigeon-holed in the net-front role; I'd rather give him a full season in GR to see if he can round out his game as a more complete player and develop as distributor of the pick.

Im on the cholo hype train again this year. The dude is so silky smooth. He'll be a favorite of mine for a long time I think.
Same, still plan on getting a 21 jersey after my #95 Cholowski jersey Christmas fiasco last year. I did get a $300 processor for my new computer out of it, though.

I think Rasmussen is playing tonight is the reason he hasn't been optioned down. He has had a good camp, looks stronger and better this year. We will see, I expect him to start in GR, but I am glad both he and Cholo have added to their games. It is clear both guys processed some of what happened to them from what I have seen in camp and good on them.

Glad to see they are giving every single minute they can to Seider to see what he has. Yzerman did give some playing time to a young Sergachev a couple of years ago and I think there is a chance that he could do the same with Seider. The kid hasn't looked out of place!

Edit : He's not playing tonight, but he might have a 9 game look.

totally on board with this logic . noneed to rush , and give him the shot at becoming a center with pro developmental coaches .

Dang. Svech has been pretty decent. Hopefully he gets a shot soon.
Yup he’s close. Big surprise considering where Svechnikov stood heading into camp

I’ve been higher than most on Rasmussen. He’s a guy that won’t do a lot of leg work on his line but if he’s playing with good players I can see him putting up huge numbers

Yzerman is taking the patient approach, and I don't have a problem with it. None of our young wingers besides Hirose have shown they are ready yet, so there's no need to rush them. Having a stacked team in GR should do wonders for Zadina's confidence.

It's really 28 as the 8 who were placed on waivers earlier today are still included until they clear or get claimed tomorrow.

Besides those waived, Pearson, McIsaac and Larsson are still on the roster and they will probably be sent down so then its at 25. With injuries there might not be a need to send anyone else down before the season starts.
I was under impression McIsaac was supposed to be recovering from surgery until November-December.

He is, they are hopeful for early December so he can play in the WJC.

We will see, Halifax is a powerhouse team with good facilities and lots going for it. Anymore a lot of teams do hold onto their hurt prospects though and rent a hotel room for them and keep them near their doctors. We might be doing that with McIsaac with him still in his current part of rehab. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he spent most of October in Detroit with our doctors and facilities. At some point they will assign him down as he is closer to playing.

Do players like McIssac get paid at all when out on medical and still with the team? The injury originally happened at last year's prospect tournament and he has signed an ELC.

McIsaac should have made around 100K last year as he keeps his signing bonus and I think CHL players clear some amount in terms of they are paid which is why they lose NCAA eligibility by being there. That payment does usually have something to do with draft slot, I think 1st round guys get paid more but I am not 100% on that, but like Veleno should have made more than McIsaac last year if I remember right. Not sure how it would work on this year when he spends time here but he will have gotten another 92,500 bonus. Vilardi would be a good recent example to try finding this out. I am not sure how much a junior player can collect while on IR. A month of his salary at 778,333 wouldn't be bad though.

So what is the current 28 man roster? Who are the last few guys fighting for spots? I see seider and cholo still up. Do we have a couple "injuries"?

Ericsson's injured. Think that's it for injuries though

And AA was out last game also, though i'm pretty sure it's uncertain how serious that is

my outlooks load the griffs up then bring kids up for short stints second half of season . give razz-cholski-seider-jv-etc a season to physically mature and mentally develop . the guy ide bring up first is svetch as soon as hes in top form and keep him up .

Unless AA can't play, I would expect Rasmussen to head to GR to play center.

From all the comments from Blashill, Cholowski should start the season in Detroit.

Disappointed that Svechnikov and Zadina didn't make the team. Hopefully one of them is with the team full time at some point during the season.

In the mean time, Grand Rapids will be loaded up again.

The Red Wings benefited from the last two championship calibre Griffins teams, so I think this is ultimately a positive.

With Rasmussen on the team (for now) and their insistence of him being a center; we could roll with:

Bertuzzi-Larkin-Mantha
AA-Nielsen-Hirose
Erne-Rasmussen-Filppula
Abdelkader-Glendening-Helm/whoever
