Since Malkin has a NMC, it makes it difficult to trade him anywhere, but especially to a team like LA that’s rebuilding — don’t see Geno being down with such a move. I think it’s more likely Malkin would go back to the KHL after this contract.

The fan base seems to be pretty mixed on trading Letang and Malkin in order to rebuild. Probably 1-2 more years before this core gets blown up.
Not even the time is really up for this core in the shape they are. They are not one or 2 pcs away but more like 4 or 5. They just don't have the assets now or next year t9 get those pcs back. So if they choose to win now, massive changes need to happen now, letang rust zucker petterson zar, desmith all could go. The slow approach is going to watch a dying horse die SLOW... guess its their choice..

Making two predictions.

Most likely first acquisition: Sam Bennett
Tougher one to make but could happen now or ahead of the draft: Anthony Mantha

malkin will be first gone. Could see him going to the flyers honestly.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that if things don't go well this season that Hextallburke sit down with all of Sid, Geno, Letang and discuss their futures and maybe Malkin considers other teams. He's mentioned wanting to maybe lead his own team before he retires. But the Flyers are literally the last place Pittsburgh will send one of it's eternal legends.

The Flyers traded HOF Eric Lindros to the rival Rangers, so it is within the realm of possibility tbh, just sayin

Flyers/Penguins is not Flyers/Rangers. And Lindros didn't accomplish half of what Malkin has for Pittsburgh. Sorry.

Probably a trade with the Ducks.
#1 Pitt always trades with the Ducks
#2 Burke teams tend to trade with the Ducks cause he was their GM back in the day.

Imagine Rakell with Crosby.

Raks to the Pens is something that has been discussed for years on HF, at least ever since he began providing for village heating needs.

But what’s in the Pens cupboard that a team like Anaheim would want
Anaheim wants younger and cost controlled. Doesn’t seem Pens have much that would fit?

If Gretzky can be traded, anyone can be traded. If Tom effing Brady can leave the patriots. Any athlete can choose to leave a team.

I don't know how you guess this. They will take awhile to evaluate their assets before planning their approach, so even they probably don't know what they will do yet. Not hard to imagine Burke wanting a tougher team.
