LaBanc looked passable for a stretch with Meier and Hertl before he really cooled off and fell out of the lineup (for SJ's 25th ranked offense), and that was when there weren't many pure talent options ahead of him (Barabanov??). Add him to Vancouver (behind Kuzmenko/ Mikheyev/ Boeser/ Garland at least, probably more if we want to give time for Beauvillier and the other kids) and he's probably a 4th liner or healthy scratch if he doesn't learn how to PK/ hit/ take faceoffs. Myers at least provides some value as an RHD that we need in Vancouver, so please feel free to keep Kevin in San Jose.

Myers is likely to get some team to cough up a pick with max retention and the TDL. Not sure Labanc would.
Agreed, his style of play and potential for physicality at least make him an option to play as a depth guy in the postseason, compared to a pure skill but unproductive guy like LaBanc.

Myers is easier to flip at the deadline than Labanc

We saw this during this past deadline
You get a 3rd team involved on retention to make the AAV lower and they get a draft pick for like $80k in cash owed.
You get a 3rd party retention on Labanc it costs 4x more in real dollars evident by his salary

Myers is owed substantially less in real
Dollars during at the deadline

Schenn was more valuable in every possible metric and only received a 3rd.

Schenn is also better than Gudbranson, but Gudbranson got a 16mil contract.

Metrics and Analytics dont mean much to dinsoaur GMs who always always always pays up for Right Shot Rugged Dmen that can skate come trade deadline.

Heck, Schen himself was probably only worth a 5th but the Canucks got a 3rd.

As a bottom pairing defender, Myers won't kill you and if he goes on one of those heaters during the playoffs, he's a huge asset.

How much do you want to risk on Tyler Myers?

For the Canucks, there's simply no room for Lebanc, as there's better players they're already are trying to trade.
