Telling that it looks like we kept Russell and Cole. I have no doubt we had plenty of calls about both.

7th rounder, becomes a 6th if Redden plays a playoff game for them.

All in all, I give Army an A+, our best deadline in quite awhile, not since the Tkachuk trade 12 years ago.

aka the deal we made to eliminate ourselves from Cup contention

Haha, still a successful trade though considering what we gave up, Weight trade too for that matter. If only we had a goalie during the 90s and pre-lockout 2000s. I remember when I though Johnson had real potential lol.

We didn't wind up sacrificing too much to acquire the greatest playoff-choking dog in the history of professional hockey, it is true.

Proof that a tight budget is arguably better than having a free spender. Laurie and that President who I can't recall drove this team into the ground.

I remember everybody being so psyched about getting Tkachuk and Weight and I was so bummed about giving up Handzus and Hecht. The Blues absolutely got the best players in those deals, and Tkachuk and Weight ended up paying great dividends in the rebuild, but they curdled the team balance and chemistry.

So, as much as I think the Blues do need to become more top-heavy soon, I'm totally okay with not tearing up the forward core at this deadline. If they got just average goaltending between Halak and Elliott, the Blues would have one of the best few records in the league again. Their predictive stats are once again very good despite all of our nitpicking. That's a team you tweak a bit at a time, not one you scavenge immediately after upgrading.

I think the one difference is we actually have the depth on the NHL roster and in the prospect pool to make a deal if we want to. Back then, the chemistry was destroyed, depth was lost with no up and coming talent to replace it, and it didn't help that we added some chokers.

Crap now I'm pissed and depressed. I'm gonna go look at our defensive pairings now. We actually have 2 true shutdown pairings to throw at Chicago and LA now.

I am in the minority but I actually liked Turgeon better then Weight. We let Pierre walk because we traded for Weight.

Oh god yes, I loved Turgeon. The only thing though, Turgeon went straight downhill after he left. Weight never really found a winger here that worked ideally, but he never really did that great. He should've scored around 25 goals, not 15.
