Your own draft Picks

How about we all wrote who would have been our picks and in a couple of years we can look back and see who should really be a scout.. or maybe just who's got cool bragging rights! And let's be honest, don't pick Diaby at 55 if you knew he was not going to fall at 71. Here would have been my picks:

25. Valentin Zykov
The pick of McCarron is growing on me at 25 but I would have picked Zykov.. I would have preferred we tried to move up to pick Rychel but this would have been my pick.

34. Laurent Dauphin
McCarron may have been picked between 26 and 33 if we don't draft him.. I would hoped he was still available - if not Dauphin seems like an awesome prospect

36. Madison Bowey
He seems so much like a safe pick with one of the best teams to have a dmen on.. Again the Fucale pick is really growing on me ( I'm a biased fun) but not knowing who TT would have picked - this would have been my pick

55. Nick Baptiste
Great skater and good size, worth a gamble. Plays on a terrible team which affects his stats, maybe his underrated because of this?

71. John Hayden
Big right handed center.. if you got the shot one - go with it I say. Would have liked Diaby the fall to this spot

86. Jesse Lees
An ND, clearly I'm not a scout.. seems like a good pick, doesn't it??

116. Vincent Dunn
A pest, talented pest.. Wheaton is another played that I liked... I am Kelowna fan, what can I say..

176. Anthony Brodeur
Just to piss off Lou, no not really - I have no idea who I would have drafted at this spot. All the names are unknowned to me but TT seems to have had a nice catch with Gregoire. :)

Let's see in a couple of years if we're clueless fans or have some TT in us.. and that sounded gay!

34. Morrissey/ poirier
36. Dauphin/porier (two picks 3 guys..really couldn't decide on who to take)

55. Carrier

71. Subban

everyone is praising us on the main board but it feels like we missed out on so many good players.. am i wrong to say that these picks would have close to perfection for us?

according to who was available:

25. McCarron (most debatable pick for me but we do need size, ready to gamble on him given our needs and who was left on the board)
34. Zykov
36. Fucale
55. Carrier (Lehkonen was also a good pick but hes high risk -- had a few concussions and hes small, not a very good combination)
71. Buchnevich (or Hayden, unsure here. went with Buchnevich due to his upside)
86. Bjorkstrand
116. Subban (theoretically went at 115 but i would have traded my 7th just to move up 1 spot for him, no ****s given)
176. Gregoire

feel free to post your picks if you disagree

Honestly.. we'll just have to wait 2-3 (even 4) years to see if we actually did good or not.

Don't really feel the same. Grant, the only ex-nhl scout in the draft thread was happy with our selections, and even called our 1st rounder. I take his opinion over the screaming armchair fans who want their picks selected any day.

As usual unless we draft every single pick as a "steal" who slid in the draft, then people are underwhelmed. Let's be real. There's many other teams drafting with the same rankings you're using.

Let's look back at previous drafts at all the players "we should have drafted" and see if that is really the case. I bet 99% of the those times both players probably busted (especially outside the top 20).

It's been an AWESOME day for me and everybody that was at my draft party. Habs now have a complete prospect pool with 0 weaknesses. From this day going on forward we simply add on. We could use another center or winger with high-end talent, but drafting (stealing) Lehkonen in the 2nd round saved face in that regard.

Are you a scout?
Do you know anything about the draft?

Go look at the other teams draft picks and find me teams that you think did better.

I would say that Buffalo did better, but they also had two firsts and three seconds.

Other than that, for where we had picks, I see 3 guys with great shots at being NHLers, one being a starting goalie, and then we have some high upside guys like Lehkonen and Andrighetto.

We will see but I think we did well. It is always easier to cherry pick guys who were available in hindsight.

A little surprised we didn't get Zykov. If not at 25 then esp at 34.

I think that McCarron will work out for us in the long run. If he has any skills at all we can pair him with say Galchenyuk and Pacciorretti or Gallagher and he can be the policeman. Big guy who can play top 6 minutes is a good thing.

Only question is if we'll regret missing out on some of the other players who were still around. And by all accounts we got a steal out of Fucale so that's something to be happy about.

This board has a ton of people who love ANYTHING the habs do. They could sign a useless player and they will find the good in it, 'it was depth'. I've gone through the reports, seen some of them play, spoken to other knowledgeable people in hockey. This draft was a C+ at best. Nothing to be excited about at all. The biggest thing about this draft is a LOT of teams got good quality picks. Every single draft, we are going to select new and young prospects. But, if you take our draft and compare it to the prospects most other teams got, it was a complete fail, horrible actually.

Ok, I actually want to see your arguments if you compare our selections with other teams.

This board has a lot of hate toward the Habs. I don't think you have been outside of the habs forum. I think the Habs boards right now has the most hate toward the draft but for most of the season you should look at other teams boards.

We had a decent draft, the emptiness you feel is likely because last year we got many of the sexy picks. This year we got more the "no name" picks, which isn't a bad thing. On my way in to work this morning I was listening to the fan 590 here in Toronto and they had a guy who is their prospect specialist (and leaf homer). He specifically called the habs one of the winners of the draft (along with Calgary, Buffalo etc..). This coming from a place like Toronto is pretty good praise.

People just need to have faith and give the players time. The draft is not won on draft day, it is won years down the road when the results are finally known. I'd rather hit a grand slam in the long run than get a couple of quick singles and follow that up with a triple play to end the inning

You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

I like what Columbus did too. Wenneberg, Rychel and Dano. Nice mix.

I thought that Columbus and Buffalo were the two big winners so far.

People hated the Paches selection. The Subban selection, couldn't play defense. Gallagher was too small. Price? We had Theodore.

Who's our core now? This draft could also be a total failure. Bottom line is, we won't know for years and I trust Timmins, even if some (Crisp) picks are puzzling.

Last year spoiled us....drafting third pretty well can get who you want every round.
