There's a strong group of investors getting together to bring a team to Seattle led by Gretzky.. My biggest fear is melnyk actually decides to sell and they step up and buy the sens..

The NHL would never move Ottawa so why is everyone worried about it.

They definitely could.

Minimal fan growth here (as nearly everyone in the city are hockey fans anyways), and they'd be gifting Seattle an exciting, young, marketable team that would practically guarantee new fans. Imagine an "expansion"/new franchise with Karlsson? It would be Bettman's total US coverage dream come true.

Besides, the league bailed this team out once already.

Odds are small we'd lose the Sens....but the possibility definitely exists.

The NHL completely stomped on Jim Balsillie when he tried to buy phoenix to move them to Canada. No way would they let someone buy Ottawa to move them to seattle.

It's a bit more complicated than that

The main thing is that the owner of the Senators owns the arena (which wasn't the case in Phoenix) so the team leaving Ottawa isn't something that is solely dependent on how well the team does financially

We just signed a tv deal worth $30+ million/season as well as roughly $16+ million from the national tv deal. And some of you think the team might be moving????

You're asking for a lot these days if you're expecting people around here to think rationally.

Exactly, as long as Ottawa is one of the 30 best markets in North America in terms of generating revenue the Sens will stay where they are.

No it doesn't. Unless we are literally playing the "definition of hypothetical" game.

There is zero chance of Ottawa moving.

it does not exist.
id give it roughly a 0% chance.
as in there is a 0% chance that the other NHL owners would forfeit franchise expansion money.

You realize that Bettman fought very hard to keep the Senators in Ottawa when Bryden wanted to sell the team & most in the know here in town have said so? Ask Dean Brown he has mentioned it several times during broadcasts when the subject has come up. Not sure why so many people think Bettman is anti-Canadian, he seems to have done a pretty good job at increasing revenue share with huge TV deals & building the NHL brand during his tenure.

The league will be looking for expansion revenues not relocating franchises.

Was just reading over the article about the Red Wings new building and how it will be semi public funded, curious as to what Ottawa fans think of this? Will Illitch be ripped like Euge was/is? To me it would appear he should be viliified similar to EM is/was.

Not sure if it has been discussed from a Sens fans perspective or whatever just thought it was worth discussing.

I seem to remember the debt to the city for the 417 on ramp was forgiven contingent on the team staying in Ottawa for a significant period of time.

Does anyone remember this or am I dreaming?

Him selling his horses and all is apparently due to provincial government policy changing

Rumour was that a lot of people are looking to get out, not just him
