Those two Salah goals show that he's quite one-dimensional, but it really doesn't even matter because he can't be defended when played as far up the pitch as he is at Liverpool. His starting position at Roma was much deeper than this but clearly he's too good in front of goal to play that deep.

He'd also cost too much now for anyone to sign him away. He's already had a better season than Suarez had in his first full season, and will probably wind up with more goals than Torres did too. Lots better forwards around than when Torres was at his best though.

Oh, quit the bull****. It's their own fault for scheduling a London derby on NYE. It was the Met that made the FA switch dates.
I’m sorry but everyone else has to stupidly play 2 games in two days (EDIT: without a week off). It’s ridiculous. They should have at least moved it up a day like the Arsenal v Liverpool game. This is the worst and most dangerous stretch of the season and you cannot deny it’s a huge break for them.

Yep. They and West Ham got a week off when every other team didn't.

West Ham still plays 2 games in 2 days.

Would think Tottenham does as well, but I haven't looked. Or your issue is the time off prior to the 2 games? That's legitimate.

Indeed. Also the team set-up definitely helps him. He's essentially a poacher that plays from out wide. But the creativity from Firmino/Coutinho/Mane and the hard work for the ball from others really allows him to be focused almost solely on scoring goals or getting into those positions.

Firmino played very wide today.

Would like to see Jose explain how Man City spending all of that money has kept him from beating Southampton. Also, Southampton's defense looked much better without VVD playing while halfway out the door.

Issue is the time off. Getting a week to rest after Boxing Day.

Weren't really against a bus today. Southampton had attacking intent.

Curiously enough their best chance fell to Shane Long who hasnt' scored in 35 games.

United looked tired and frustrated today. No sense of urgency until the last few minutes. Midfield needs Herrera or Fellaini to allow for Pogba to get more involved in the offence, he had to stay back a lot today and was rarely involved in anything. On that offside goal, the ball was heading towards the post and with United's luck with posts this season, one can hardly blame Pogba for trying to make sure.

The guys in the NBC studio were making the point that United’s attack doesn’t look like something that’s coached. It feels like Mourinho coaches them on the defensive side of the ball but basically relies on “go out and play” for offense.

It doesn’t look like there’s a coherent strategy. To many players making runs when no one is looking for them or two players making the same run at the same time.

Yeah he was also dropping very deep into midfield at times. Salah was generally (and usually is) the most advanced player. He did very well -- he started the move that ended in Salah's first goal and generally was creating chances. He also took two really long shots which surprised me.

Mo Salah is amazing and I hope Mourinho isnt fired. His whining and moaning is so delicious. Blamed the referee for today's draw.
