Fleury I think would be really bad for Jarry. I mean he himself would be fine but imagine if they just decide to run with Jarry, he struggles (or even if he doesn’t) and Fleury is riding the bench, Yinzer nation would turn rabid.
Not just yinzer nation either. You think Crosby, Malkin, and Letang wouldn't want to see their buddy playing instead of this 24 year old kid who hasn't played 100 games in the NHL? It would create an unnecessary goalie controversy. Just no.

Fleury wouldn't come back if he would be upset about platooning with Jarry, and the Penguins wouldn't be dumb enough to guarantee him a starter's role.

The idea that Fleury would somehow be a bad mentor for Jarry is a fantasy. He wouldn't come back here if he'd make a big shit about not being an undisputed starter. He'd be willingly deciding to come back here with knowing that Jarry's in the fold and he would be coming back as at most a platoon goalie. There isn't a scenario where Fleury comes back while being mad about not being a starter, he wouldn't sign here if he was that dead set on starting.

What makes you think Vegas would give us a 1st round pick for him?

apparently they’ve offered a second and other teams have been countering with a first...But yeah, don’t know if it’ll happen

Why are you pushing this so much?

Oh god. What a question. I... I can't think when I'm put on the spot like this. This is too hard. They're both so... heinously overrated and mediocre.

Oh god. Where is JR?! He loves those things. Iirc Shero said letting Staal go was his biggest mistake and I’ve been thinking it was a bullet dodged for Shero for years. It averages out to mediocre too.

I’d pick him, too. If we’re ignoring things like contracts and retention.

I like to think that these players don't care about that and only want to win.

But I shouldn't be surprised that some think this is the case. People did blame Crosby for signing JJ, as if Crosby pushed JR to do it

Precisely. It's not gonna happen, but at least Staal fits a need.

Only interested in Flower if he's bought out. I want someone (doesn't have to be Flower) with more NHL experience than DeSmith if Jarry is our #1.

Of course Ray Shero would say that. He's a putz. A jobless putz.

Why not see how CDS plays before throwing him over for somebody else? Again back up goalies aren't hard to come by. Give CDS a chance and see how things play out.

They might not care if things are going well, but if and when they don't go well for a stretch, I'd definitely be concerned how that would handled from Sullivan to the players to the media to the fans.

Edit: And it has nothing to do with MAF. I agree MAF wouldn't come to Pittsburgh unless he was willing to accept that role. He'd be a pro about it, but it's everybody else I don't trust.

To be fair, he turned down a pretty sizeable extension offer and decline because it was his intent to go play with his brother. He got 6x10? I think we offered, what, $5.9 or 6.0mil for a similar time? It was choosing the team over money so Shero shouldn't beat himself up too bad. His biggest mistake was Bylsma and signing non-impact scrubs like Glass, Adams, Kobasew and making trades for bottom 6 role players year after year.

I don't trust the coach.

I don't REALLY trust Fleury despite all his glorious press.

So I don't at all trust that potential situation. Why even chance it?

I shouldn’t laugh.

Hey! This is serious business.

My mom’s side is like the Gambino crime family and won’t let you out.

You wouldn’t believe what I had to go through to stop going to their traditional Christmas Eve parties that made my wife so miserable.

- Ya guys I’m uh... out

- No you aren’t...

- Ya for real, I can’t do...

- The family will be very displeased

- Ya...

- Vinny and Knuckles will be escorting you to the party this year.

- ......

Anyone also under the illusion that Fleury would be coming back to just be a mentor and backup goalie to Jarry hasn't been paying attention to the Vegas situation.

This is so spot on. He doesn’t want to be a backup, he wants to start. Not to mention you could put out a full blown press release from the team stating he’s only here to be the backup and that would never stop his cult from crying and pining for him to start every time Jarry let’s a puck last him. It’s all just completely unnecessary drama and there is zero good reason to do it...Sid, Geno and Letang can just get over it if they miss their buddy...this is a business
