I like Bogo, but don’t see how he fits when healthy.

Petts Bogo would be a solid pairing though.
Man if this team got Bogo, this board would be all over him the way they were with Gudbranson. It would be even more unbearable. Like JR literally got Zucker, a guy a lot of people here wanted, and now people are saying he's overrated and not as good as they thought...AFTER ONE GAME!

In any case, I like the idea of Wood on this team, he is a guy that plays with a lot of speed and I think he would really fit in with the Pens, he's inconsistent but he's also a good contract and a good depth player. If the Pens aren't going to give Adam Johnson a shot, I would just move him and a pick and then hang on to ZAR (barf) just to maintain depth.

When Kahun is back...

Zucker, Crosby, Simon
Kahun, Malkin, Rust
Wood, McCann, Hornqvist
Aston-Reese, Blueger, Tanev

Then off season when Jake is back and healthy, move ZAR and our LW depth is pretty damn deep.
Next season...

Zucker, Crosby, Simon
Guentzel, Malkin, Rust
Kahun, McCann, Hornqvist
Wood, Blueger, Tanev

I'd rather this team got Miles Of Wood. I think he's a buy low guy that can really pay off in the Pens system.

Aston-Reese + 4th for Miles Wood.

For an LD, if JR added a sweetener then I wonder if the Devils would see if Greene would come with salary retained.

ZAR will not be getting traded , but nice try though

Like Miles Wood the player...hate his salary for the Penguins. He would have to payoff in our system or we'd be sucking mud on the cap. Let's face it, Jim's not going to be hard *** with our RFAs. Not his MO at all. Its not like we going to resign them on sweetheart deals. The bottom 6 would be getting $$$. Defense is $$$ with Pett's new contract (hate the contract, not the player...but too long of a deal for a player of his ilk).
His cap is hardly that bad, he's at 2.75m/yr for a guy that is a career average 30pt player, that's pretty much at value.

He's younger than ZAR and a better player than ZAR and he has elements to his game that really would fit seamlessly to the Pens game. At worst, he's still better than ZAR, at best, he's a very good top 9 player.

Bogosian is the Galchenyuk of defensemen. Draft placement, lack of hockey sense... other stuff

Like to see us go after a LD we can partner with Letang. Leave Pets and Schultz alone. And then roll Dumo-Marino when they're back.

I appreciate this sentiment...Scandella would work, but may be too costly...will watch him tonight..

More along the lines of a victim of a horrible developmental system, rushed to the NHL, and very injury prone has rendered a once promising defenseman into barely a 3rd pairing guy that was drafted really high.

I mean, Atlanta wasn't ever known for developing prospects and Bogosian was rushed because they needed to build excitement, he was a victim of that and he is what he is now. I think if he sticks around next season, at best, some team might give him around 3m or less for a 1yr deal. If he's even that lucky.

Bogo hasn't played 70+ games in a season in a decade.

Yep. And then when another D goes down, JJ is coming in as a replacement, not shooting up to the top 4.

I think to get Scandella, it'd cost the Pens Riikola. Montreal was really on getting Riikola and unless this team wins the cup after getting Scandella, it'd be a bad cost to give up on Riikola, but I can see JR doing it with how Sullivan dicks that kid around. At this point, it is what it is.

I wouldn't be shocked if it took Riikola + a pick to get Scandella with some retained salary.

Scandella, Letang
Dumoulin, Marino
Pettersson, Schultz - I still do not like that pairing at all, Pettersson is white bread, Schultz is mayonnaise.

I'm not saying Wood's contract is terrible or he is terrible hockey player. It's fitting his salary on a team with an already somewhat expensive bottom 6 configuration. Especially next year with the RFAs we need to sign not to mention adding Petts new salary and we have Zuk now.

He was definitely rushed, like Galch, but he’s also dumb.

I think it'd work. One of the goalies are going in the off season, the Pens won't drag this into the expansion draft.

Never really did understand the trade of the second for LV to take MAF. What exactly was LV going to do. If any thing MAF waived his NTC so why do that add. But Pens shot their wad with the Zucker deal so mid to next years mid picks is what is left. It does come down to Dumo and when he can return.

I like Kurtis MacDermid's game a lot. A massive rugged left-handed defenseman with some skill. I can't see the price being too much. Makes more sense than paying a hefty price for a Dillon or Forbort.

With Detroit tanking and losing a lot of their D to UFA we could always trade JJ to them for cap relief in the summer. They did try and sign him to a 3 year deal in the past.

The report was that LV would take Rust.

The thing here is, the Pens could up the ante as the other teams did so LV wouldn't take the player they wanted to keep. The Pens were fortunate enough they had great depth in goal that allowed for them to take Fleury.

Other teams gave up players, high picks and good roster players.

2017 NHL Expansion Draft - Wikipedia

The Pens were really never in danger of losing Rust, but at what cost does it take if Fleury wasn't used?

1st 2017? Sheary? who knows what the cost would have been. If they thought that highly of Rust they would pay what LV would want, and got off rather easy with Fleury and a 2nd.

Not only was Vegas going to take Rust, but Vegas was going to take Rust and trade him to Columbus. There were talks at the draft that Columbus really wanted Rust and offered Vegas a pretty good package for them to take Rust and trade him to Columbus. However, McPhee and JR already agreed to the JR trade and McPhee wasn't going to back out on that, so he ended up still taking MAF. It was a 2nd rounder well spent.

Yah. I think there was also talk that the deal was done in Feb, back when MAF wasn't playing great. Come the expansion draft he'd turned it around and at first people were disbelieving that we'd have to add to ensure Vegas take him, but in retrospect it all makes sense and has turned out super well.
