Flynn won 57.8% of his 346 faceoffs last year in comparison to Eller winning 50.6% of his 409, if we need a guy for faceoffs and to kill penalties I'd rather pay him $950k instead of $3.5 million.

Winning a faceoff is useless if you struggle at every other area in possession.

Flynn is a replacement level defensive player. Faceoffs aren't magical, they are the equivalent of a puck battle. Winning situational faceoffs is nice but Flynn should never be on the ice against good players.

If you adjust for venue, zone, and score over the last 3 years, Flynn has a 41.91 CF%, 43.38 FF%, 44.49 SF%, and 43.02 GF%. Flynn is a net negative out there.

Hits are also a big problem for our bottom 6...so is our general size.
Flynn won't help there...

Dallas
Montreal
Winnipeg
Chicago

Those are the worst 4 teams in faceoff so far.
And we're 11th in the league for our PK.

Eh true. I mean he played really well in pre-season, and I find he brings more in general than Emelin does. Emelin brings a lot of physicality but that's pretty much it. Also Berkshire mentioned that Pateryn was the best D by Corsi vs Ottawa.

Byron is going to be this years Weise. Book it.

Funny. Pateryn made a lot of poor decision with the puck on that game.

He was really good against Buffalo tho

I'll be at the game :yo:

I expect Sergachev to struggle some more, the Pens are real deep, he won't see the ice much.

I think the lesson there is faceoffs are not a very meaningful statistic out of context.

If he wins the faceoff and we lose it after 1 seconde like you're saying, it will not be because of him.

This is true, but it's also why having a 4th line FO specialist only has limited value. And Flynn will do very little to regain possession.

Let me put it another way - do you want Flynn taking faceoffs against Malkin?

Don't mind these changes all that much. Flynn is a good soldier and both him and Sergachev help the speed factor against the pens. Also Carr has been okay but nothing great yet. Byron can't do worse on that 3rd line, which is by far our biggest hole when you look at the sum of its parts. Let's see what happens

No, but if it's really close at the end of the game. For example, we are winning by a goal in the last minute. Yes.

We have home ice. I don't think Flynn will be doing so. Even on the PK well just be icing it after if we win the faceoff

The missed story is how brutal the bottom six is:

Byron - DD - Shaw
Flynn - Mitchell - Danault

I think it's a mistake to put Sergachev in the line up and not put him on the powerplay, it's the only spot where he can gain confidence and prove his utility to the team.

I'm sad to see Pateryn out but it was to be expected. He was good with Beaulieu in the preseason, but when they faced good opposition they made horrendous mistakes in their zone. After a good first game in Buffalo, he was bad against the Senators. He made so many mistake in his zone and his teamates had to cover for him. He does seem more incline to skate with the puck which is really good, but i'm starting to really doubt his defensive game against top opposition.

Who do you take off?

He might be an upgrade on Beaulieu because of his shooting but for this season the best thing for the Habs is to let N8 keep building confidence.

No one, they are all superior players. But i hope he gets some time here and there on the PP. It's the only time he'll have space and time to do what he can do. If he manage to get enough confidence, he'll find ways to create space and time on the ice.

Put Serg with Weber for one PP wave. He can help offensively and he can skate well to cover Weber if need be.

Not replace Markov, just get Serg in for one PP with Webs.

I agree with the poster above that it would help his game to get NHL PP time before he goes down.
