I'm guessing, if you really believe that, you might be part of the Pens braintrust. Because at this point, after Matt Hunwick, Oleksiak, Jack Johnson, and Gudbranson, they must be the only people who think this is going to end well. This supposed "magic touch" with down-on-their-luck D men is long long gone. Did great with Daley, did good with Schultz and Hainsey. That was 3 years ago now.

Not needed, not wanted, and I was annoyed enough at having another very expensive "project" in Matheson. I'm sure we're going to see Ceci play over Riikola, Ruhwedel, and POJ. I would've rather had the cap space to make moves when the season gets underway.

Absolutely dumb and pointless. But Rutherford just cant help but think he's the smartest man in the room with his "bargain finds".

To be fair Niskanen also had a nice career revitaliztion in Pittsburgh as well and Gudbranson played rather well in the short time he played.

When your a team in win now mode you do have to take some chances on players who can turn it around as young players are usually still developing

LOL.. didn't the sens trade after their best D for almsot nothing and then continue to still miss the playoffs? Anything D from the sens cant be taken seriously

your idea of almost nothing is

Tim Stutzle
Josh Norris ROTY in the A
Chris Tierney
Rudolph Balcers
Mads Sogaard
Dylan Demelo > Leevi Meriläinen (3rd round pick this year)
2nd round pick in 2021

While the rest of the league is complaing about how awful Karlsson is (Which is really only based off of his contract, he's still a dangerous player)

Brutal post man, honestly one of the worst I've read on this board.

Leafs and Sens are both guilty of taking on their bad defencemen.

Forget the dumb thing he said, why is he responding to that poster and talking about the Leafs? It has nothing to do with what the OP said.

Hopefully we get the version of Ceci you kept insisting was performing fine in a top 4 role last season. ;)
Penguins must have a great goalie. This has just gotta be some sort of psy ops against the rest of the teams in the league. This is chess at a different level:laugh:

Oof, funny you say that. Actually the first time we took your worst D worked out pretty well for us, pretty sure we got to the eastern finals game 7 overtime vs the 3 times cup champs. Pretty rich comment considering Phaneuf only has 7 games played in the playoffs PLAYED in his long tenure with the maple leafs with not a single playoff series win LOL. Great team you got there. 3 of the biggest contracts and that playoff series win still eludes you, even after shipping off your “worst D” to ottawa, ouch bro! Tough comment

And the Karlsson trade is widely regarded as one of the best trades of the last few years

We possibly got 3 top centers for it.

Stuetzle
Norris
Tierny

Bold prediction...

Ceci has a career year, making everyone say what a very nice surprise and didn’t expect that one.

signs 4 year $4.75m extension...

regret half way through year one

Over on the leafs board we call that the Zaitsev special

Not sure why teams take the Leafs worst defensemen
Ceci and Barrie
yup , still can't believe how hard Sakic f***ed Dubas on the Kadri trade

Barrie is mothing more than a ultra soft forward masquerading as a D .

He played 20+ min a game last season, with Rielly his most common D partner on the top pairing. It's not a stretch for a team to give him a 3rd pairing role

I agree with you. Everyone acts like Ceci is a minor league defenseman despite playing 20+ minutes a night for the past 4 years and against the other teams top forwards. Last season Ceci had a 83% QOC with 55% defensive zone starts and still managed a 52% EV def. So Ceci played against the other teams best forwards and started against them in his own zone and still held his own. Now it is a stretch that at 26 he can't even play 3rd pairing with the Pens. These message boards are just ridiculous. Letang and Marino are probably the Pens best defenseman and both are RD's and having Ceci behind them at RD he should be in his most sheltered minutes of his career. Last year Ceci played mostly top pairing with the Leafs so this should be a much better situation for him.

I actually like the pens as a team. It does not give me pleasure to tell you that hell is coming and his name is Cody Nono.

Pens are known for getting a lot out of the players they sign. Even players you don't expect will do anything. So I wouldn't be surprised if Ceci has a decent year now. lol
