Still trying to twist the words... "seeking an economic development structure that is typical of sporting venues in North America" means exactly what he says they are not after... "taxpayer handouts". Taxpayer handouts just happen to be "typical".

How does LeBlanc think almost every stadium / arena has been built in the U.S. in the last 30 years.... by magic beans? They are are built on the backs of taxpayers. What makes LeBlanc even worse is he just doesn't want taxpayer money to build him the building, he will want taxpayer money to help finance his team in perpetuity.

Not sure about these numbers, but this article shows what the public purse has paid for in Arizona.

The Coyotes have completed purchase of the Springfield Falcons. The only thing left is for the AHL Board of Governors to give final approval to the sale and application for relocation to Tucson, AZ for the 2016-17 season. There may be an announcement from the Coyotes this week, but I suspect that the league will want to hold off and announce both the transfer of the franchise and relocation after the BoG meets.

Two is already a crowded schedule, unless Sarver want to dump the WNBA good luck sharing that many dates and booking shows at the same time. Who the fourth wheel anyway?

The Arizona Rattlers (Arena Football) team...

BTW....

Staples Center currently hosts...

2 NBA teams... (Clippers, Lakers)
1 NHL team... (Kings)
1 WNBA team.... (Sparks)

AEG doesn't seem to have a problem scheduling around things.

Suns spokeswoman Maria Baier, a former city councilwoman, declined to comment on Stanton's anticipated announcement. The basketball team has expressed its desire for a new facility and could potentially leave downtown Phoenix by around 2022 under its lease agreement with the city.

"Our comment is 'No comment,' " Baier said.

However, interviewed at an event held by The Arizona Republic on Monday evening, Suns owner Robert Sarver said he's not opposed to anything in terms of sharing an arena with the Coyotes. However, he said the NBA team is in its facility for at least five more years.

5 more years, Glendale /AEG must be salivating at the tought of this. Huge rent increase or go play at Talking stick with obstructed view and all the money going to the Suns

It will be very hard for them to get any shows if AEG has Gila River they will lock all their acts in their own venue

COYOTES SIGN AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE SPRINGFIELD FALCONS AHL FRANCHISE

Springfield, MA - The Arizona Coyotes and the Springfield Falcons announced today that the two clubs have signed an agreement for the Coyotes to purchase the Falcons American Hockey League (AHL) franchise. The agreement is contingent upon AHL Board of Governor approval, finalizing closing conditions, and signing an arena lease agreement.

I guess they are not waiting....

So, how much would the purchase price be, between $5-7 million?

How much will Tuscon be providing in 'subsidies' and how much money will this AHL franchise have in 'losses'... ;)
Five is likely at the high end... I suspect Charlie Pompea sold the franchise for about $4.5M

Agreed. The proposed four wouldn't completely overlap unless both Suns and Coyotes have deep playoff runs. NBA/NHL is Oct to Apr. AFL is Apr to Aug. WNBA is May to Oct.

In addition, other arenas have multiple tenants. Staples Center also has AFL's Kiss. MSG has Knicks, Rangers, Liberty, some St. John's and other college basketball games. Verizon Center has Wizards, Caps, Mystics, and Georgetown. Wells Fargo Center has Sixers, Flyers, some Villanova, and Soul.

Agreed on the scheduling front. There should be enough date to make each team happy.

IMO, it all boils down to the revenue split from the building between the Coyotes and Suns. They really need to be equal for this to work for the Coyotes. This was the real reason why the Yotes needed get out of downtown in the first place.

Though numbers are preliminary, if the Suns are contributing 250 mil and the Yotes are putting in 100 mil, right off the back I don't see the partnership as equal.

I'm starting to think that we might all be wrong and they actually have some money or the ability to get money.

Nothing else makes sense if this all goes forward based on what is "common" BoH knowledge.

Maybe this is the arena deal LeBlanc was talking about to announce in 2 weeks (1 now) :D

Well, it was pointed out elsewhere that the cost for purchasing the Falcons is around $5 million, give or take. That's about the cost of a player salary. And TCC's renovations will be covered by the city - the team will simply pay rent there as a tenant.

There's still a Damoclean sword hanging over their heads on the NHL side but the Falcons deal amounts to the millionaire version of chump change... :naughty:

I like the tag under the video (hint: it's seven figures), I guess this explains why they think it's not expensive... 1.1 million seems reasonable. Only off by 3 zeroes... try ten figures?

Or $2 million less than what Barroway paid for his new home in Scottsdale. ;)

Montini: 'Dear Suns and Coyotes: Build you own damn arena. Respectfully, Phoenix'

To quote:

"As long as the owners pay for it.

The owners of the Coyotes, Andrew Barroway and Anthony LeBlanc, are wealthy and successful. So, too, is Suns owner Robert Sarver. So is Kendrick.

Most of us, on the other hand, are not.

We don't ask these wealthy team owners to build our house or our places of business. They shouldn't ask us to build theirs."

Is Phoenix really willing to play hardball with Sarver? The Suns are a sports icon in that area, much bigger business than the Coyotes.

Also, in the hypothetical situation where Sarver funds the new Suns arena mostly or entirely on his own...why does he share it with the Coyotes in the first place? Am I missing something?
