Latest: Arena "Announcement" in 6 weeks, or thereabouts

Too lazy to find the point in the video where he says it, but I was there as well, and the word LeBlanc used was 'Astrobucks' (to renovate AVMC). Some of you should be able to have fun with that...

I found it for you DOM (48 min mark). Was the inspiration for this thread title.

OK, I was triggered at Omnishambles ...

As much of a joke that this Coyotes arena thing is I still think they break ground before Seattle even gets done with their EIR on the SoDO arena.

Phoenix CXIII:Runaway Freight Train would have been a good title.

Caution: Bickley Ahead...

Bickley: Stadium games threaten Valley mood

To quote:

"The Coyotes have one more year on their Glendale lease and need to relocate to the East Valley, where the team expects to add up to 4,000 spectators per game overnight."

Source: http://www.azcentral.com/story/sport...mood/82406000/

I looked up the numbers a few months ago the are drawing more this year than they did the last year they played in phoenix

Well now ya got me, I thought he was long gone. See I really don't follow this thread too closely. Check in once in a while. Remembered he bought in then I thought he got out. This is what happens when there is too much nonsense to wade through.

He bought in, scaled back, then scaled back up again. It's like a game of duck-duck-goose. So now the three power brokers in IA are Barroway, Leblanc, and Gary Drummond, with George Gosbee now relegated to silent partner.

A few weeks ago, Barroway showed up for a Coyotes game with his parents, who dropped the puck prior to the game. It was surreal and more than a little embarrassing to see the guy so obviously parade his toy for his folks, especially since he's largely an absentee owner otherwise.

OVERVIEW OF AEG FACILITIES' ARENA MANAGEMENT

City Council Workshop, April 5

And, there will be an Executive Session following the workshop, on the details... :D

it's funny ... if the team does stay in 16-17, i wonder if having an actual professional firm managing the arena might conceivably result in an increase in ticket sales for the hockey team.

said another way, i wonder how much of the poor sales these past couple years is not due to lack of interest in the product, but due instead to inexperienced clowns managing the venue and selling the actual tickets.

Back to Coyote Morgan's claim that Bettman was in Phoenix the other day to threaten everyone to build us an arena or we are outta here. Have any of the victims commented on anything about the supposed meeting? or is it Top Secret ? Has there been any comment from anyone not on Coyote payroll to suggest that there was, in fact, a meeting?

My understanding is April 12 is a scheduled meeting where they could vote.

In also recall when it was reported that the city seleced AEG, the contract would be finalized within 60 days.

This will fall within that timeline. At least one is being met :D

Other than putting together some corporate ticket packages where you get tickets to X event and some Coyotes tickets, what else could really be done?

I'm optimistic, but there has to be a little more interest developed by the team itself to have a real effect, wouldn't there?

Have any of the victims commented on anything about the supposed meeting? or is it Top Secret ? Has there been any comment from anyone not on Coyote payroll to suggest that there was, in fact, a meeting?

Please show us where in Morgan's article that Bettman threatened anyone.

BTW... Morgan is not on the Coyotes' payroll.

Of course he wouldn't say that Bettman threatened anyone. He is writing from a pro-Coyote viewpoint:amazed:
Do you know of anyone on the builder side that acknowledged that there was a meeting?

If he didn't say it then why did you state it as a fact.???

All we know is Bettman met with LeBlanc, the mayor of Phoenix, some state officials and officials from ASU. That isn't being "pro-Coyote" or "anti-Coyote" or even non-descriptive Coyote is it??

Not to be detailed, but do we really know that Bettman and LeBlanc actually met with the Phoenix mayor and state officials?

Casual Fan (who is admittedly distrustful of the entire situation there and the way it is covered) says that those are public officials with public calendars, and he hasn't found any such meetings.

said another way, i wonder how much of the poor sales these past couple years is not due to lack of interest in the product, but due instead to inexperienced clowns managing the venue and selling the actual tickets.

I'll be interested to see what AEG does in terms of bringing in better concessions, Wi-Fi upgrades, etc. that LeBlanc says are no longer his responsibility.

If AEG upgrades the amenities significantly, then there's no question that the arena will see more traffic. Wouldn't it be ironic if both Glendale and the hockey team see a better bottom line with AEG in charge?

Wasn't some of the backlash against Glendale the fact that they met out of session with IceEdge/IceArizona officials? Wouldn't meetings with other local government folks equate to the same jeopardy?

I got why the Glendale saga didnt get much press in AZ but Phoenix is the main city with big newspaper/tv /radio stations and not a single reporter on the municipal beat asked the mayor about said meeting?

here they are houding the mayor 24/7 and he cant get out of city hall without having them following him

I don't believe that Morgan said that they met with the mayor of Phoenix. On the Doug and Wolf show he said it was officials from Phoenix, someone from ASU and others that he was even more obscure about naming.Without naming anyone specifically he says sources say it went well. Seems to me that when Bettman arrives on the scene of arena negotiations in Arizona it is almost always some type of ultimatum. Glendale meetings are a classic example. If things are going well he would not show until the documents are ready to sign. Based on past performance this was to push the process along, probably using the same type of tactics that always worked on Glendale.
For the 3rd time..Has anyone on the building side confirmed that there was any meeting? or is this just coming from the Coyote side?

I'm trying my darndest to keep an open mind, but this whole sequence of events seems so desperate, farcical and futile that I can't help thinking that they are just trying to buy time for announcing an immediate relo.

I just can't see any other plausible explanation for this farce.

Question for those who live in the area, more specifically Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe or Mesa.

Has anyone tried to contact the office of their council person and ask if there we're meetings with the league/team? Not to get any details of any meeting, but just a confirmation either way and maybe even to get a gauge of the city's position/ level of interest.

Why not get something from another horse's mouth?

The meeting was Top Secret. Only Coyote officials and their chosen mouthpieces know about it. Seems like it was so secret that the Coyotes did not invite any of the builders. That is why we are having difficulty getting anyone that isn't a Coyote to admit they were at the meeting:naughty:

No, I havent found a thing since I started looking yesterday via google search. No blurbs, no tweets, no reports, nothing.

I'm trying my darndest to keep an open mind, but this whole sequence of events seems so desperate, farcical and futile that I can't help thinking that they are just trying to buy time for announcing an immediate relo.

Far from alone in that regard Mork. When confronted with the implausible such as we have been then sure, Relo is the only plausible explanation. None of what were hearing from LeBlanc & or NHL friendly blogsters & reporters adds up. Doesnt make any sense no matter how you slice & dice it. IA simply does not have the kind of capital required to put towards the building of a new facility nor can they provide the kind of collateral that would be required to secure a loan to finance their contribution. To expect the Salt River - Pima Band to just absorb 100% of those costs?...

Then theres the timing, logistics. Without the NHL & their credit facilities propping up this club, these guys wouldnt make it to the last payroll of the 15/16 season let alone the first payroll of the 16/17 season so how are they going to get from then to lets say October of the 2019/20 season? Thats IF, and a BIG IF anyone in the Valley actually wants to do business with them much less shell out several hundred million for yet another facility in an already seriously overcrowded market. And then what?... Just hand over the keys, pay IA a big fat Mgmnt Fee & let them keep about 90% of all revenues including naming rights?... What have they (including the Blackmailing NHL who got away with $50M) done that has earned such largesse, faith & trust?.///

What is plausible is that the NHL & LeBlanc are now in full-on damage control, "giving the appearance" of doing everything possible to save the franchise after those Big, Bad Old Meanies from Glendale drove us out. All spin, PR.

I didn't look for any records but I did ask if anyone was aware of which officials Bettman reportedly met with. Haven't seen it reported; seems like an obvious question though
