Hardly...it's because is a 3rd line centre, who gets too much TOI most nights...a 3 goal game does not change that. He is a perfect, 3rd line centre, who can kill penalties. Nothing wrong with that....

As of this moment, he's our 2nd best center. No disrespect to the eagle but he's not 100% ready just yet. He will be before we know it.

Is Danault an untouchable now?

Danault might very well become expendable if Poehling pans out. We would have Domi-Kotkaniemi and Poehling taking up the space at center. It would be a luxury to have Danault playing on the fourth line. Dont know if Danault can play well on the wings?

I’m not looking to trade him, but if a top pairing young LD came available.....I’m pulling the trigger

Never a team will give a too pairing LD for him ..

He played winger with Victoriaville in JNR ! The center was Yanni Gourde

Thats an option to move him on the wing. We have so many wingers though, Bergevin will have to trade some to open slots

Danault has some crazy flashes ( the one timer was crazy good, and last year he scored on a 200ft. Breakaway) he is built to be a defensive center with some good offensive flashes sometimes.

Bottom line, expendable but as a last resort for a good lhd. An overall gem for the price paid

If he can play as defensive winger next year i wouldn't trade him

On ghis team, if the goal is to win now/make the playoffs he would leave a big hole. But if Poehling is the real deal, as soon as he's ready, Danault is expendible and would be the best otion to trade for a left d if that were to present itself. We dont want to lose one of our few offensively capable wingers, or Domi, or Kk, or onebod our 3 right d's to get a left d. So Danault makes sense - if a team wants to go that route. Not sure we could find a trading partner, as Danault is under rated. In fact it may be that Danault makes Poehlong expendable, and Poehlong might have the trade value to get that good young left D.

Danault is doing a very fine job holding down the #2C spot until Kotka takes over next year. A 30-40 point, defensively responsible Center making $3M is a great deal for our team going forward.

Diffinitely, we gor to wait next year before trading danault. If poehling decides to stay in the Ncaa nextyear danault would not be expandable!

True, except, as usual, he's on pace for 40-50 points, currently 49 points.

And, I still hope Kotka can take over the #2 c spot this year. Although I don't think Julien thinks he's ready defensively.

Is Poehling going to be a better C than Domi or Kotkaniemi? Not sure about that. And Danault is a very good 3rd C.

If you want to get that good left D, you have to give up something good. Poehling might be what we have to give up, given we already have good 2 and 3 c's.

Your problem is that you don't know how to see things big picture.

The Montreal Canadiens are NOT giving up youth prospects. If someone goes it would be Danault. And Domi can most certainly move to wing if and when they find a better option

You have to give to get. If the Dman coming over is only a couple years older than Poehling (who's about to turn 20 now) or the same age, I'm ok with trading Poehling. Sort of like the Sergachev-Drouin swap.

But no way do I give up Poehling for a Jake Muzzin...

For example, I'd trade Poehling + for Sergachev, but no way Tampa does that.

I was talking more for next year, but nevertheless, he's having a solid season.

TB have no reasons and no needs to trade Sergachev. They have 4 vets d-men to unload within a few seasons. They need to keep their young d-men, especially Sergachev.

As much as I like Danault, I'd like a little more offense for Gally and Tatar. So would at least like to see it tried.

Plus Danault is always effective with Byron, Lehkonen, and Shaw, so the 3rd line could still be productive.

Since I found Drouin-Domi-Byron too small and unable to protect the puck in the o-zone, I'd actually try:

Tatar Domi Gallagher
Drouin Kotka Byron
Lehkonen Danault Shaw
