It looks like the Rangers really did get his best couple years, and he was immense in the playoffs for us (and apparently at least one playoffs for the Sens, too, I read above). I'm guessing this is taking a flyer (no pun intended) on Brass going on a roll again come playoff time. I don't know anything about Philly's cap situation, but other than thtat, it's a low-risk contract that could come good in the postseason.

Probably for depth incase Hayes isn't ready to go come October. If I were Hayes i'd contemplate taking the season off.
