A better comparison would be with the top D-prospects in the NCAA, rather than those who remained in school five years after they were drafted, how many of these players are legitimate prospects?

*A comparison between players of the same age, same draft year, & playing in the same conference is as even a playing field as is possible when comparing NCAA players. Those who play in the same conference have similar schedules (& similar quality of competition). Quality of competition contrasts sharply from conference to conference so comparisons of that kind are to be taken with a grain of salt*

The problem is that most true NHL prospects don't hang around for five years after their draft class.

Kalynuk is a late starter who has stayed three years in college, if you want a measure of him as a prospect, compare him to sophomores and juniors who are considered legitimate NHL prospects.
He's had 3 years of USHL play (17 to 19 years old) and now 3 years of NCAA play, he should be a dominant college player at this point.
A lot of his peers are already in the NHL or their 2nd AHL season.

Disagreeing with everything just because is incredibly obnoxious. That doesn’t make anyone cool, hip, a free thinker, or what have you. It makes you an ass, full-stop.

Kalynuk has been a pretty dominant college performer since his age 20 freshman year. He’s not a 4th year 24 year old senior with a sudden linemate dependent boom season. This is well covered.

Yep. 1st on his team in points and points per game in every season at Wisconsin minus 2018-2019 when he was 2nd to Miller in P/GP.

Scoreboard watching is a disease.

We’ll see soon enough as to how good Kalnyuk is or not. It doesn’t look like Wisconsin is going to go far in tournament play, if they make it at all.
JMO, but I think that he would have gone pro after last season and be in the A now except for Granato getting him named captain. The Flyers were probably cool with that since it gave him a position of leadership. As for this year, I’m more happy with him under Granato that Gordon,

Below is specifically why he went back for another year of college (Quote from Flahr, transcribed by Charlie O’Connor):
