For example, Sanheim having spotty PP usage last year... or Laughton having early zero PP usage.

If you don't think those were decisions from above, then you are plain wrong. Sanheim has made references to it a couple of times that they wanted him to focus on defense all year so that he wouldn't be shell shocked at the NHL level. With Provorov on the second unit and Ghost on the first, there was absolutely no need for him to get PP time down on the farm.

Laughton practically saved his career by removing all the extra's and being a much better ES player. It's clearly showing right now as in all honesty, he doesn't have a shot at PP time at the NHL level.

This sounds more ridiculous every time someone brings it up.

Oh this again?

1)They want Laughton to focus on defense... so that means he can't provide offense too?

2) Sanheim won't get PP time in the NHL (says who?) so there's no point in getting it in the AHL?

Ok, for the first one, playing on the PP doesn't have any effect on Laughtons defensive improvement. It's not like this is some video game where you have a finite amount of skill points to assign to their overall skillset. It's not as if they had to stop using him as a defensive player or on the PK to give him a ton of PP time. He can do all of those things... like Couturier is currently doing in the NHL.

Then as for the second one, Sanheim is a great offensive talent... why in the world would you intentionally prevent him from working on it further and becoming the best he can be? There's absolutely zero logic there. You don't develop players based on what you have in the NHL... you try to make them the best player possible. Right now we have a 1C... should we avoid developing another player into a 1C? Of course not.

These are such incredibly weak excuses. I don't know where they started, but they should die now.

Lol Rubtsov is wearing #98? #17 isn't even taken.

Do they have some rule that Russians can only wear #98 (Vladimir Kuznetsov wore it prior)? It's annoying because his linemate Morand wears #88.

It's brutal. My eye site is crap as it is. 88 and 98 look exactly the same with these maroon and gold jerseys.

That was a nice drive and dish by German. Too bad Morand flubbed it. These 2 should be good together. It sounds like they have put a big checking line together, so the 98/88 line should be free to run wild.

On cue.

Beauty deke for a zone entry, passes it back to the trailer, who passes it to Morand with an empty net.

Morand's wing is where you can always find their best player. Rubtsov is just keeping up the tradition. (Someone sign Vlad in a few years.)

You seem to be confusing AHL powerplay time with developing offensive skills. Its ok. Its an easy mistake to make. You can be an excellent powerplay player while being a black hole at ES. Right now the Flyers do not need PP quarterbacks.

Laughtons problem was that he was trying to be a player he's not. He showed flashes of offensive skills in his last year of juniors and tried to become a finese player at the NHL level. Laughton generates offense from his forechecking and defensive abilty. Not from trying to deke around 5 players at once.

By removing his excess commitments it puts a firm message that they dont expect him to be a top 6 pp and PK forward. They expect a solid third line player that can PK and generate momentum. So get back to what you are good at and make sure thats your role in the NHL.

But we could just pretend that none of the game is mental at all.

Nhl skill points.....sigh

Nothing in this post comes anywhere close to refuting what I said or validating the incredibly weak excuses you made.

So I guess your options are a) accept that there's no excuse for it or b) you could try again. Up to you.

PP’s are a faze of a game. The Flyers currently are quickly back to having a second unit that essentially is a punt of a shift.

Trying evaluate that if a player fits in situations isn’t a bad thing. Instead this organization just pigeon holes players into roles right off the bat for really no good reason when you think logically about it. It’s essentially some old school preconceived notions type of ordeal instead of trying to develop a player & see what they are/aren’t fully capable of.

Because our coach has tge fantastic idea that all of the vets on the team deserve PP time to try and boost their points and validate their position on the team.

In the setup the flyers run Ghost is clearly the first QB and Provorov is the second. Secondly neithet of the players you mentioned plays a QB.....

It's not illegal to put 2 Dmen on a PP and remove a shit forward.

We havent done that for years and weve usually got one of the best PP in the league. Why change?

That hasn’t had anything to do with the second unit though. The Flyers have continually put bad players on the second unit & unsurprisingly it’s resulted in bad results for them. There’s really no logical reason why someone like Scott Laughton or Travis Sanheim aren’t considered PP options in this organization when there’s not enough good players on their current second PP unit.

The whole context of this discussions is based on the merits of seeing where players could possibly fit on the PP at both levels.

11, 5, 5, 6 are the shot totals the last 4 games for Morgan Frost. For someone who can err on the reluctant shooter side, I love this. Obviously this is a bit high for him, but if he can stably increase his shot totals from last years 2.1 shots/game to 3.3/game (what it is at now), that's a great improvement. Shooting more to make the defense guess, getting grimier around the net.....it's integral to getting to his best offensive self. If his shooting % ticks up a couple points (12.5% right now....14% last year), he could have a chance at 30 goals.

I haven't watched much of him since very early on this year, but I feel like I need to if he keeps shooting like this. Something perhaps changed.

At this very moment, no they do not, but the previous 3 games they were missing Ghost and they did need one. You’re also missing the big picture. What if they got an offer for Ghost they couldn’t refuse? What if Provorov just isn’t that effective on the powerplay? What if they were looking to trade Sanheim? If he were approaching 50 points as a rookie in the AHL, like he almost certainly would have if he played on the Phantoms top PP all of last season, he’d be that much more appealing. What if they wanted to run a 2 defensemen PP unit like Nashville?

Having options is good.
