Konecny scored a goal & an assist in his first preseason game this year. Sarnia pretty much dressed all their big guns tonight while London didn't. So the rosters were pretty lopsided but Sarnia still only won 5-3 despite it.

He was also named 1st star.

All in a days work.

Hope he can really come in and impress at the Flyers camp and preseason games as well.

Id' be shocked if he wasn't one of the top 9 forwards at camp. It will all come down to what Hextall thinks is best long-term though.

I'll give it till the 25th before I start worrying about his icetime.

The 25th of December.

Yeah - in the London home game, London dressed the heavier roster and then in the Sarnia home game, Sarnia dressed the heavier roster.

What are you guys thinking about Konecny's chances of making the team this season? Sorry...I haven't paid that much attention to your internal depth.

He's a player I've watched for a while (and was impressed by him even before he got to junior). I know calling a first round pick a "sleeper" is a bit odd, but I really think Konecny fits that description. There aren't really noticeable flaws in his overall game (controlling for the fact he's a 19 year old)...his height isn't the greatest, but he's physically strong (incl lower body strength). I think his floor is pretty high.

Something that not everyone realizes is how effective he was offensively in the OHL last season. Of the 1997 born players, he outperformed Marner and Strome 5v5 by pretty much every metric (while playing on weaker teams - both Ottawa and Sarnia). I'm not making that observation to suggest he projects as a better player than Marner and Strome - but just to share an example of why I think he's so underrated.

I'd say he has a 50/50 shot at making the team. We have a ton of depth on the RW which makes it harder but I think he has a legit chance to make the team as the 2nd or 3rd line LW. He will have to earn a top 9 spot in camp over a guy like Matt Read or Scott Laughton. Naturally, Hextall won't keep him around to play on the 4th line.

The preseason should be extra interesting with the World Cup guys missing some of it, and kids like Provorov, Morin, Sanheim and Konecny trying to make the big team.

BREAKING NEWS: Highland Park Hockey's Lehigh Valley Phantoms Coverage For 2016-17: http://highlandparkhockey.blogspot.com/2016/09/highland-park-hockey-coverage.html

I'm going to have an announcement further outlining what kind of hockey coverage will be on the website this season on Friday afternoon, but I wanted to re-introduce Tim Riday to the readers now before things get busy.

If you thought last year's coverage of the Phantoms was solid, you're going to love what's in store for this season.

The great Michael Parks signed a minor league contract with Minnesota's ECHL affiliate.

What are you guys thinking about Konecny's chances of making the team this season? Sorry...I haven't paid that much attention to your internal depth.

I think there's a chance but if I were a betting man I'd lean towards him being back in the OHL this year.

I actually posted in the previous thread wondering if there was a chance if he's back that Sarnia would look to move him. As it looks like Zacha won't be there & most of their talent outside of those two is in 98's & 99's. I guess time will time but logically it makes sense if the team isn't doing as well later in the year.

Konecny would just have to blow the competition away, they are pretty deep at forward (signed players, not talent), the Top 6 is pretty set, as I highly doubt thats where he starts. And the Flyers have like 9 Bottom 6 players already.

If Konecny makes it, who gets booted to the AHL?

There's a very real possibility that he is already better than Laughton, Cousins and Read. That gives him a reasonable chance at making the team. All depends on his camp.

So J Weal cracks in at 16th best U25 over on BSH. Someone even voted him 7th, which is the amazing part. Coots, Ghost, Sanheim, Konecny, Provorov, Morin....Weal?
