The reason it's flawed is that if if you apply the logic of fixing one part of your game to like 5-10 others they would also win a lot more.

I know the line of thinking that putting is random and all that, but it really isn't. Scottie didn't randomly putt better this week. He putted better using a different style of putter. Putting is hard. He's not good at it. This week was different. Maybe the new putter will change that.

I know it's like an impossible standard to hit, but Scottie needs to win like 5+ times a year to dispel this reputation that he doesn't win at the level of some of his strokes gained numbers. He's the best player in the world right now. No one really doubts that he can run into a few hot putting weeks per year. The reputation though is that he leads in SG TTG like every week and only wins a few times a year, so to turn that SG reputation into tangible results he needs to win more often.
The thing is your basically asking him to be Tiger lol. Obviously putting isn't entirely random, Scottie has been a bad putter for quite a while. The thing is even 'bad' putters at the tour level have good weeks.

If he turns into an above average putter where he is gaining strokes regularly he will have Tiger like statistics. Look at the wins he has so far, 2 Waste Management, 2 API, Players, Masters. Those are big boy wins.

Who knows if this putting improvement will stick, or if it will just be a hot few weeks. The rest of the players better hope it doesn't stick though.

Does everyone expect that if golf reunifies that everything is solved? It seems like some are trying to push golf back together quickly as if there won’t be hard feelings and fans are gonna just forget what happened and immediately restore TV ratings pre-LIV.

It might just be a reality that the golf world is damaged and it’s going to take time to repair.

I see Rory demanding golf immediately reunify. He listens to a lot of these popular golf media voices and speaks with them. All of them are pushing immediate reunification. That sounds great in theory, but it comes off as out of touch and pandering to a small segment of die hard fans and ignoring the consequences of what LIV has done. If you cheat on your husband or wife, you can’t just tell them to get over it and act like nothing happened going forward. If there’s ever reconciliation, it’s not an easy process.

I agree, it's going to be messy for at least a few years.

That being said, it is clear the path pro golf is on is not sustainable. I think everyone at the top level of both LIV and the PGA understand that, so there will be a push towards bringing it back together.

How that is done, and how pissed off people are about it is yet to be seen. Personally I think a lot of the disdain of the LIV guys has already dissipated amongst fans. I also don't need to like guys to watch them, having the Bryson's and PReed's of the world makes for more entertaining viewing, even if you hate them.

My thing with the TV ratings argument that has been brought up a lot this year by many is that this might just be what the ratings are with reunification. Tiger was a huge draw for TV ratings. He’s virtually retired. Without him golf is going to enter a new landscape of ratings.

Also, the lack of competitive nature of some events has led to bad ratings more than anything as I view it. Dunlap’s win got better ratings than that tournament the year prior. That’s due to that it was compelling TV. If Rory or Jordan or Rickie is in serious contention you’ll probably get better ratings than the year before. I think the LIV guys will help improve the pool of players that could make for good ratings, but I just don’t know that ratings are going to be there the majority of the weeks, unless it’s a major or the biggest names are in contention or a very compelling story. I think that’s the crux of the lower ratings.

And my thing isn’t that we shouldn’t see reunification. What I don’t like is someone like Rory resigning from the Tour board and then immediately undermining their hand. Those guys are obviously just trying to negotiate the best deal they can. They are working to reunification. It might take a long time. That’s part of what this fracture has brought about. Rory’s almost acting like a reporter who leaks the position of one side to help that side with the public perception of the negotiations. Rory is doing PIF’s bidding and undermining the PGA Tour’s attempt to negotiate the best deal. I get you want to play against Rahm, but so does Scottie or someone like Cantlay negotiating for the Tour.

I agree with regards to ratings, it could be just that golf is not as popular. It is a niche sport really, it's why the LIV thing never made sense. They could never pay these guys that amount of money and be profitable, it has to end at some point.

As for Rory, I think Rory is just frustrated with what has happened. He got completely f***ed by the Tour. Now he just doesn't care and wants everyone to get back together for the good of golf as a whole. He doesn't care about the PGA 'getting the best deal'.

Clark leading the way by 4 strokes. He's been playing excellent golf this season and showing us why his major win maybe wasn't going to be flash in the pan we thought it was.

I will make a point to never watch any PGA Tour event if the LIV guys are brought back somehow. They took the easy money and erased whatever line there was left between sports in any kind of pure sense and the "pro" side of pro sports.

The PGA Tour needs to stop the honor code for some of these rules decisions. Rory’s double drop gate on Thursday shouldn’t have occurred. People bet on these rounds and we aren’t living in the Stone Age. There should be a decision room like the NHL that makes these decisions and takes it out of the players hands.

That new entity the tour formed with Fenway Group and other investors includes 1.5 Billion in player equity.

That should help soften the blow for the guys who didn't take the LIV payouts if/when tours inevitably merge and LIV players come back to playing real regular season golf.

Perhaps even the LIV guys could pay back into the fund with a small amount of their own equity from LIV.

You are the only person I’ve ever heard say this haha I respect your stance though.

Are you out on the majors then too?

No, the majors are a different kettle of fish.

I need some semblance of the actual sporting side of things to keep me interested. Calling LIV "golf" is like calling porn a love story.

Wyndham with a legendarily bad shot on 17. I've never seen anything like that.

Seen plenty of shanks on that teebox, but hitting 4 inches behind the ball like he did might be worse. The sound of the strike was disgusting (and very familiar to me )

Several things can be true at the same time.

- The actual product of golf that is LIV is flaming hot unwatchable trash and embarrassing for the sport
- The guys who took the money and knew this would likely happen might deserve scorn but still kinda hard to blame
- The PGA tour is hypocritical for playing the morality card and then getting in bed with the same people
- We should probably have everyone back on one Tour and try to reward the guys who stayed (player equity fund should help some with that).

It doesn't look like he's gonna win, but I'll take an unpopular stance here and say that I actually do enjoy Wyndham Clark. The dude just plays such fraudulent golf that it's kind of endearing to me. He's been getting away with so much shit today that it's wild, and he got away with it at LACC too. It's good entertainment.

Scheffler, the first player ever to defend the Players! Battling through injury and to surge the way he did on Sunday is just icing on the cake of an amazing performance.

He only wins big tournaments

Damn. Most egregious horseshoe I can remember since Phil's putt to shoot 59 in Phoenix a decade ago.

Wyndham nearly beat my allegations in just half an hour - commendable effort.

Scottie is on another level.

First person to go back-to-back weeks winning since Tiger. First person ever to defend the Players.

Only putted half-decent this week lol

I like Wyndham too.

How about Schauffele bogeying 2 of his last 5, and then missing a 6 1/2 foot putt on 17 to tie it?

He flies as close to the sun as possible without ever looking like he’s going to win. Every single big spot.

I like Wyndham as a person but his game is kinda everything I don't like about pro golf. Bomb and gauge to the tee. Only hits a cut, hits at as far as he can everytime and go find it and play from there.

Seems like a good guy though.

Xander just doesn't have the it factor. Great player but fades every time he is in contention.

He layed up on the driveable par4 and hit 3 iron off multiple tee boxes.

True, because his driver was completely out of whack lol.

More of a problem with just driving in golf now. Just swing as hard as you can every time and go find it. The reason he hits that driving iron is because he can't turn over a driver, can only fade it.

These guys really aren't though, they all have an extra gear and most of them are leaving something in the tank.

Wyndham tees the ball down and plays a fade, if he really wanted, he could be @ 200 MPH ball speed consistently with 20+ more yards. His dispersion would suffer mightily though.

These guys know how important accuracy is. Clark had a problem with overfading it. Golf is hard
