I think Kapanen would be a moron without the puck regardless because that's just how he is, but he's got ability with it and boy is this team ever chopping his balls off by not letting him play to his strengths.

Kapanen during the pandemic season vs him now is a fantastic case study imo. One is a player that is playing his game entirely and the other is playing the way the coaches think they want him to.
A lot of blokes here hate Kapanen for the latter when ignoring the former being the player Toronto had and what we could have had, had Sully not forced Rust on that line instead.
You watch this version of Kapanen and he's the untainted player that Sullivan couldn't ruin yet.
Sully should hold lectures at Carnegie for how to completely f*** a player up with confidence and ruin him entirely. If you can tell me that's the same player we have now, I'd call you a certain R word that has been cancelled. Because that's what one would be for thinking it's the same player. It's not. We have always discussed players that have come and changed their game to fit the way Sully wants them to and then they leave and produce again.
Kapanen isn't some bum that they're going to discard. He's a player that will be liberated when Hextall moves him. Sully will ruin whomever else we get.
