About what? The team accepting reality and turning the page? Because I think this team's been a chore to watch for a couple years, and I'd like to have some hope that they're gonna be contenders again instead of pretending some millionaire strangers are my boys, and they absolutely have to stick around because they ~deserve~ it or whatever. That comes from accepting that Evgeni Malkin is a glorified PP specialist at this stage of his career and not worth the probable $8 million x 3 it'll take to keep him around. Letang's a better player, and more durable (which is an important factor re: Geno) but I still don't think he's worth handing a $40 million, 5-year deal to with how badly he's been stumbling for months, which will only get worse as his game continues to slip since he's entirely athletically driven and not some cerebral guy who can adjust his game to suit a body that's losing its natural ability with age.
Why care about the next set of millionaires though?

Letang is giving me Gonchar 2010 vibes until very recently. If his defense at ES gets any worse he’s gonna slide into liability territory. But he’s still pretty damn good. Reaallly depends on what he’s asking for.

This is the same guy that's in the GDT's saying I cant watch this anymore I am leaving the thread. Kind of like a "look at me" cant watch the team

But yet stays in the threads

Like an airline announcing his departure

I'm not really bothered if they let Letang walk, in general. What concerns me is them then having to find a replacement for what Letang (at his best) does. We don't have anyone on the roster who is remotely close to replacing that, and I'm not sure who in free agency can do it that won't also cost like $8+ million per year.

about what the penguins do lol. like if you watch other teams. think the pens are boring. have not personal connection to them. Why watch them and comment on the message board for them haha
Because I've been watching them for like 25 years at this point. Sometimes a habit gets settled into your routine to the point where it just *is*.

If I genuinely didn't give a shit about the Penguins, I would've stopped watching a while ago. I want to watch the team and be entertained again as they compete for Cups. That's at least 5 years away, most likely, so I'd rather they get to working toward that instead of having it be, say, 8 years away by handing these guys contracts to keep the feel good story going. If anything, I think it's weird that people *don't* give a shit and want to keep watching this same old boring rerun they've been watching for the last several years.

-edit- Fantasyland compromise; The BFFs stick around at discounted prices so everyone can be best buds and ride off into the sunset together, but the team sucks shit and drops off a cliff to the point where they start raking in those top-5 picks. Voila, everyone gets their wish.

Competing for cups in 5 years? Lol, that's not how these things work. We are closer to competing now than we will be in 5 years. I think you're in for a pretty rude awakening

You're talking to a guy who'll stay up late watching re-runs of the Big Bang Theory instead of going to bed. I'm holding out hope that Penny ends up with Sheldon one of these times.

Nucks will give you Boeser, Poolman, Dickeson, Rathbone for Sid, Malkin and Letang to help you out then
I’m actually not the GM so the only thing the Canucks will be giving me is a chuckle when I see they missed the playoffs yet again

It isn't going to be the same re run with the new owners put in place that have a reputation that they care about "winning." The wheels are already being set with the Morehouse departure. But if winning involves keeping the core or not keeping the core, I trust what they are about to bring here.

Incorrect. I stay up later watching re-runs of Jagr in a pen uni waiting for him to come back and start a bar with Mario in the Southside. Then start a sitcom together where Jagr always jokes about Dying Alive and Mario says thats our Jags.

Also, I was referencing myself in that post even though I worded it weirdly.

I don't hang out in your bushes and peek in your window to see what you watch, you weirdo. That's @Gurglesons you hear late at night.

My friend is an intern for Yohe and he said he overheard a conversation with Yohe, Hextall, Lemieux, Burke, Kingerski, and Malkin and apparently Malkin got Milhouse fired bc Milhouse offered to pay Geno $7.1m for the next 8 years and Malkin thought that contract was an insult to the franchise and a waste of money bc he doesn’t even want to play for that long and he just really wants to save the new ownership group money that is his number 1 goal and what he has in mind headed into the postseason

I mean how cool it would have been to have him line up next to Sid from 2013 and on before he left the NHL for good. Shame it didn't happen.

just be honest, you're not going to watch when they're rebuilding. You specialize in complaining about everything this team does

Is this fan fantasy, because if it is, I’m loving it? Please write more…just leave out Lemieux in a room with Yohe and Kingerski…that’s a little out there, even for fantasy geeks

This is the most likely outcome TBH.

The team is going to start sucking long before Sid & Geno retire. Look at them now - they suck with all of these guys right now.
