Hextall wouldn't give up on Petry this soon after dealing for him. GMJR, maybe, but not Hextall. He's nothing if not patient

Well, he has a 15 team NMC and clearly wanted to be in the NorthEastern USA, so this wouldn't be an easy trade to make.

Penguins are loaded on defense. They have Jan Rutta on LTIR waiting to come back and Ty Smith playing in the AHL. Petry being a summer pickup probably was to cover any expected shortcomings of the D-corp, but Pettersson and P.A. Joseph finding their groove this season, there is no real need for Petry.

I think you and I have different definitions of "loaded". They have a lot of shitty players on defense, yes. But I'm sure as hell not trading Petry to open up a larger role for any of them.

The guy to move out from the defense is Dumoulin. Trading Petry is just absolute madness.

Probably more available in the sense that they would be willing to take an overpayment for him.

The situation is that Hextall absolutely bungled the bottom-6 and is hard pressed against the cap, so he needs to clear out cap space in some way. Trading Petry would basically be a situation where they think the cap space plus return for Petry would help them more than Petry.

The issue is that trading a defenseman as good as Petry because you f***ed up with the bottom-6 should be a fireable offense. You don't trade a fairly paid #3 D who's having a good year to make cap space to address your bottom-6. You trade (and pay to get rid of, if you need to) the shitty overpaid bottom-6 players. Trading a player as good as Petry to get cap space over paying someone a draft pick to take on McGinn or Kapanen is just absolute stupidity.

Hexy should get VdV out of retirement to fix that bottom 6. He;s only 35.

Petry has been fine. How would the Pens replace him? Letang, Rutta, Rhuwedel would be our Rd’s. Petry moving requires a replacement
