No way that Williams goes for cheap, he plays with more heart and kills himself out there every night. He loves the Kings, the locker room and I don't see him leaving LA. Stoll on the other hand is a great 3rd line center, he is one of the best face off guys on the ice. With that said, Martin is a decent, but does not equal a Colin Smythe award winning winger. The Kings will shop higher than Martin, even if a first round pick is involved. Mr. Game 7 will stay in LA. Stoll may leave, he is a great center and face off contributor, he came out of the break with hip issues, but is still playing well. Richards is trade bait to the right team for the right return, hard to see this happening if we do well in the playoffs, but we will see. Richards is underrated in aspects of being a defensive forward, penalty killer, and overall leader. He did lead the Flyers to the Stanley Cup as their Captain. Having many enables the Kings to survive 3 game 7s and to the Final to beat the Rangers.

Here's the trouble fella, every single D man you have except your #1 is playing at least a spot, if not 2 or 3 spots over their pay grade. Not sure what world Muzzin is a #2 in.

If your GM wants a #2 D man who can eat 25-30 a night in the post season, then he's not getting it with an albatross contract or some low end futures.

Yeah but like Martin, Williams is due to be a UFA after this season. So how is his worth (not being under contract) any different than that of Paul Martin? Plus from what I understand Williams is open to a move to the east because his wife's immediate family is on the east coast. Even major Canadian sport writers have reported it is not likely the Kings will be able to extend Williams. Hey if they do congrats, but it's going to be big money for a 35yr old player.

LA is in win now mode. why would they trade their conn smythe winner?

they can find a d-man without losing williams.

people that wouldnt trade martin for williams are out to lunch.

Because someone winning the conn smyth last year means nothing this year. If they feel that the difference is a top 4 D and Williams is the cost then they might make that deal.

I will be surprised if the Kings deal Williams. He's about as clutch as you can get when the stage is the brightest. I feel they will hold onto to him for another run but you never know.

Yeah, Paul Martin would be on the high end of guys LA would look to plug in on their D. If the asking price for a player like Martin is Williams (which would be reasonable), the Kings might look to trade for a lesser player.

The world in which he was a # 2 on a team that just won the cup.

The issue with the Kings is Voynov and Robyn Regehr being out. If Martin joins the Kings, he would not be replacing Muzzin. He'd be just like on our team, their fourth best defenseman.

And that is a perfectly viable position for them to take. Just as it's perfectly viable for us to end up picking up a good bottom six player with size rather than send out Martin. But the idea that there is some value disparity between a #2, or at worst a very good #3 D and a middle 6 winger is not correct.

Look at it another way, is an expiring Williams worth a 1st rounder? Not very likely unless there is some kind of arms race for wingers. Is Martin? Probably not, but certainly more likely as he may be the only top pairing type D man on the block this deadline. Staal may be another that's close in value, but in all likelihood he will not be on the block due to NYR's blue line depth.

Both players are likely worth a pair of 2nd's or a 2nd and 3rd type package, maybe with an added prospect.
