So 34 games in and Laine has secured over 0,35 pts/gp-ratio. Gz to all who called these projections to be garbage when talking about Laine.

Thanks, you could tell it with accuracy that those claims were cargabe, as is the whole site to me. Watching the player play will tell most to experienced and knowing eye.

Laine in his own comments said that he knew Scheifele was going to pass and opted to make himself ready for the pass whenever it comes. I don't know it that's telling of a pre-planned manoeuvre or if they're just in each others heads already.

He's probably reading marks body language well.

Laine really did well to slow down / almost stop to open the passing lane, as some one well mentioned earlier.

Interesting really on the 2 on 1 play with the strong closing back pressure on Schief the Lanche defender probably should have worked harder to deny the cross ice pass but Laine does a very unorthodox thing by stopping his forward motion and sliding laterally away from Scheifele while squaring up to provide a passing target to Mark. Man he is confident in his shot to make that play and Schief who has a wicked wrister himself was probably thinking pass all the way. Pate really felt how to move into a soft spot and set up for his one timer.....I can't remember if I have seen a shooter do that before on a clear cut 2 on 1? Not sure Mark could have teed it up any better for him either.

Defender played it horribly. Let Scheif walk in front of goal if need be but the cross ice pass can't happen.

Damn you guys notice the smallest details haha. All these posts make me pay attention to things I otherwise wouldn't have.

The defender got caught puck watching and I don't think he "felt" Laine slow and square up. Either way his job is to deny that pass but usually that player drives the net and it was probably pretty bang bang in real time. Easy from my cheap seats to second guess

Listening to the Avs' broadcast of Laine's goal you can tell that he's starting to become a bit legendary for his shot / scoring. Obviously, he does way more than just shoot, but this sort of reputation is going to bode well for Laine when it comes to voting for the Calder. Right now, I'd say he has the votes of the Avs' media guys.

I'm banking on everyone hating the Leafs so much that they'll just give it to Laine even if he doesn't have more points.

Honestly I don't think what he did wasl that unorthodox at all, players are taught to open up to shoot constantly and Laine did just that, it was a pure goal scorers goal and as soon as Scheifele saw Laine transition to open up he recognized the play and timed the pass perfectly. The Av defender maybe could have tightened the gap a bit but he was in no man's land and couldn't do much more, he was starting to shade over to Laine but as someone else mentioned he was watching the puck a bit too much and didn't notice Laine opening up and creating some separation for the shot attempt.

It was a brilliant play by two gifted offensive players.

Missed the game as I am away, but this is a great GIF. As others have said, Laine actually increases the distance between himself and both the defender and the net by moving laterally. It made the defender look more out of position than he actually was.
The other interesting thing is how close Landeskog was to catching Schiefele--less than one stride. It's easy to forget just how fast the game is and how timing separates the good from the great players.

Landeskog was also attempting to chop down a tree, apparently. 9/10 for his axe-wielding skills on that play. :D

I have heard only good things about PAMA HOCKEY -sticks lately. A true Finnish hockey stick since how long? But as their sticks go for starting from 199€.. It would be cool if they sent one to Laine and asked for him to test them honestly.. And if they're good he gets as much free sticks he wants with all the customization, ofc.

They're hyping it as pretty much something unseen in that stick technology but haven't digged deep enough into it to say whats the deal with it. From what I understood, they go the opposite direction though, Pama hockey says that some players using flex 100+ have started using 78 flex or so, because the tech in the stick delivers much better controll and blade wont flex, so they can use lower flex to get more whip. IDK, But 4 real man, these stick things are advanced but what ever stick you're shooting with, 101 mph is sick from 18yr old winger.

That would be tough as he just signed with Bauer, and I bet he makes few dollars with that contract

I have seen guys square up but rarely ever fade away like Laine did. I am not saying this doesn't happen I just don't remember seeing it play out this way. It was a beauty play no doubt and allot of fun to watch with a house full of guests who are all Jets fans.

Lol. I was just wondering should I make next update to the list, when it pop ups like a random advertisement window... :D

6G+5A=11Pts in Last 10 games. According to few newspapers lately it was like he would have been in a quite long scoring slump.

It's a tough pass for the defender to stop since he's backing in and trying to cut off a tap-in pass through the low slot (like the Perreault-to-Wheeler goal). Yea it takes very VERY confident player to do what Laine did and basically take himself completely out of the net drive for a tip in or rebound shot option. I love that he just squares up fades away drives the dagger in the heart.

So 34 games in and Laine has secured over 0,35 pts/gp-ratio. Gz to all who called these projections to be garbage when talking about Laine.

Anyone still remember the "the comprehensive Laine/Matthews" thread in the Leafs boards? Was hilarious in it's lack of comprehensiveness, while being complete and utter disrespect towards Laine and at the same time the non-stopping praise towards Matthews. They literally were unable to talk about these kids in an intellectual manner or even to identify the weaknesses and strengths of both players. Leafs fans are the best with their non-biased viewings. I just can't fathom how I didn't really get that before the 2016 draft even while I was kind of getting flat out bored with Nylander vs <insert the next guy> daily reads.

They'll never get the chance to undo the history while the Jets will never have to regret their pick. I think Winnipeg makes an excellent home for Finnish fairy tales. There really is no telling how good of a player Laine can become when he reaches closer to the peak after some years.
