Kane probably had an agreement to join the team if Buffalo decided to send Benson down.

Weren’t people saying that Buffalo was ahead of the Leafs in their rebuild 5 years ago?

They have been saying that since 2015.

What's the risk? Cap room we are not going to use?
One year signing I have no problem on a one yr. 2+ yrs you get int cap trouble

you ideally need stability in coach and gm. The team did not.
I would say Buffalo is still in the mix
Not for 2+ yrs given the risk associated to this injury. He needs to prove it.

Is that your opinion or do you have some sort of insider knowledge?

So now Elliot saying Kane prefers a multi year deal at a fair value...this is different from before where everyone was saying one year deal.

Ugh he gonna go to Detroit ain't he? Shit

Please. He doesn't have to prove anything for two years. That's nothing. Leafs may sign him and know they can throw him LTIR if it doesn't work out. Buffalo doesn't spend to cap so real dollars matter more. Sabres are probably doing math on ticket sales and stuff

The only people who’ve ever been saying “1-Year Deal” have been people speculating, and generally that’s connected to chasing a Cup with a contender. He’s not chasing Cups. He’s looking for a comfortable situation..

It’s always been about finding a situation he feels comfortable with for the remainder of his career. Like Pavelski did, and like Stamkos will be doing next summer.

It’s why Detroit and Buffalo have been mentioned so often. They have connections, and they have some cap space. I’m not even sure the dollars are crazy important. He wants a situation where he’s comfortable with the coach, the manager, the scheme, the role they see for him, with a chance to play some meaningful hockey over the next 2-4 years, and be paid well enough.. Detroit and Buffalo offer all of that the most, and that’s likely why they’ve been connected the most. Whether Florida has made a good enough case, guess we’ll find out.

He's really not though. Granato has FINALLY gotten through to a couple of guys that defense is now a necessary thing if we want to win.

Kane is a one-way offensive threat who may not even be a threat if past results repeat themselves as far as the hip resurfacing goes.

Buffalo, in theory, has plenty of offensive firepower. What Buffalo NEEDS is a 4th line center to help out defensively. And maybe a 3rd line winger in the Greenway mode -- someone who can chip in a little offense but primarily knows that his job is to work the boards and play defense.
6 SOG in 2+ periods with all that offensive firepower

Any team can use LTIR.

Question on if he did sign a 1 year, 4 million deal. Is that verbiage to assume that it's prorated and really a 1 year 2.75 (rough estimate) million deal based on games remaining? Or would it be a full 4 million from the date of signing (and really like a 6 million deal if he had signed in September?).

Probably just another example of Friedman throwing darts to keep his name out there.

But if it's true, could be a case or Kane's camp reaching out and Dallas saying they weren't interested.

Or maybe they're still trying to make room capwise. :dunno:
