Yeah good luck trading Reimer when you probably can just sign Mike Smith or Cam Talbot for a 1 year deal at a cheaper rate.

If Islanders lose out on Panarin and Lee, maybe I do a Reimer and Hoffman for Ho Sang trade

I don't think anyone's suggesting they're trying to move him for positive value. They're trying to move him for another team's negative-value asset that they can better absorb. So if another team had a negative asset to move (and most teams do), they'd rather engage in a swap of liabilities than keep their own negative asset and sign someone new.

Still think Montreal makes a ton of sense. Need a 2 year stopgap backup, have some cap space, and would be able to gain some value back as well.
It's only contingent on MTL not getting Duchene though

I think a few teams could use him at 50% retention. Id offer our 3rd, along with Reimer, for a late round pick.

It seems like Tallon's plan is Panarin, Bobrovsky, and Stralman.

Florida isn't trying to take $$ or someone else's bad contract back. Ideally, they would just attach a positive asset to him like a pick(s) or prospect and jettison him. They could also retain on him and send a not as valuable pick to someone to take him on. Other than that, they could buy him out.

Here's what a buyout would look like

Guys, the Panthers do not want to take back salary. Tallon will probably retain some salary for a late round pick, or will add a prospect or a 2nd or 3rd to take him at his full salary.

I said this in other thread but

Borgstrom, Tippett, Reimer

for

Brodin, Ek

Florida dumps the contract, gets a really good defensive top 4 defenseman who is also adequate playing the right side, and a young center who doesn't have as much offensive upside as Borgstrom but is a good strong skater who plays the right way and took big steps in the last quarter of last season.

Minny gets couple young forwards with good offensive upside, replacing Ek with a more offensive center and adding a goal scoring RH winger that they desperately need. Bit of a gamble, but you rarely get these kind players once they reach their upside.

He is a pretty decent backup, must be some takers out there if they retain a million or something?

Something around Reimer @ 50% retained for Sparks and Brown.

Leafs replace Sparks with a guy that has a .914 career SV% (worst 3 years were concussion, concussion,Florida defense) and save about 400k in cap space if they play Petan or other near league minimum guy.

Panthers stash a 3rd goalie in the AHL and grab a RW that can PK.

We are going to give you 1.4, so we can take back 2.9? Why is it so hard to understand that they dont want to take back salary?
