Wouldn't want any of those to be my top PPQB either. Running a PP entails far more than being able to knock in a few pucks. It primarily requires vision and puck distribution, and to some degree the ability to carry the puck into the zone with firm possession.

Sorry, there just isn't any competent PP QB worth a dime after Yandle in Florida.
It is a chance that the PP loses it's impact if they make changes. But it's not like they were more than mediocre in the standings with that good PP they had. And Ekblad is not as long a shot as you think to be good on the PP. And Yandle's role on the PP isn't as irreplaceable as it may seem.

thinking he'd fit good in edmonton to help the big 2 create a real exciting brand of barn burner hockey

was thinking so too. Yandle for Larsson is an interesting base.

I thought Edmonton could be a fit especially with klefbom’s injury, but they picked up Barrie so I don’t see anything to be had there anymore

I still take Yandle. Our D still plays too much like a Chiarelli team too often.

Im fairly certain you could throw him on the third pair and limit his minutes and it wouldnt be significantly worse than just claiming guys who are headed to the AHL to play over him.

Don't you think we've tried that? He can't even manage that. If he didnt score so many pp points and didnt have a huge contract with a nmc, he'd already be in the ahl. Do you think Q started coaching a year ago? If he can't stand Yandle, and wanted Zito to claim someone off the waiver wire to play above him, that tells you all you need to know.

Scores SO MANY pp points, but can't be on the ice.
He's free and available, but you don't even hear about teams being interested...are they are all too dumb to want him. That must be it.
He's not free, he's $6.35M. It's not like teams can just "have" him, they still havr to pay him his money.
Unforgiveable to cut short one of the longest ironman streaks in HISTORY. He can obviously still play. Play him in a limited "pp specialist" role until he is traded.
Shit move.

So, they hate him so much they won't play him. How much of his salary are they paying or what assets come with him?

have you looked into his situation? At all? His advanced stats? Watched one game he’s played for the Panthers?? Sure, you watch when they play your team, but you don’t watch game in and game out. Yes, he’s a PP specialist, on one of the weakest defensive teams in the league last season. Panthers management would like to change that. Instead, let’s keep some iron man streak going even though the guy’s stats show he’s not helping the team. Let’s not light a fire under his ass to protect an “iron man streak.” Panthers D is still shit, but ole Yandle is still playing multiple games in a row. Awesome!

Get lost. I’m happy no matter what happens should he stay OR go, but ultimately I want my favorite team to be competitive year in and year out. I’ll take a playoff streak over his games played streak all day long.

Cap dump for cap dump, it's all fair.
Btw, did you watch the Pens last night? If not watch the highlights and pay close attention to #5 Matheson. That's baseline Matheson, he gave up 3 goals+a stupid penalty+giving a breakaway. Matheson was/is outplaying Yandle. Think about it for a moment, Yandle is worst than that. He ended the season being the 6th dman on the second worst defensive group in the NHL. It's very easy to improve over him.

Interesting the evolving hockey has him with a positive WAR over those years. Do you know the main differences in calculations?

The one used in the chart that PatientPanther posted uses on-ice RAPM xGF driving and individual shooting for offense as opposed to relative GF which EH uses and also uses regressed on-ice penalty differential instead of individual penalties. There are other differences but those are the two main ones.

Its much more similar in nature to evolving hockey’s xWAR - a far superior metric to their WAR stat - where Yandle is worth -0.9 xWAR over the past 6 years. The xWAR doesn’t seem to support that he is as bad as the other model suggests but still suggests he is certainly not making positive contributions.

6.3M cap hit the 3 next seasons and $16M in real $$, he's anything but free. No team will take on that salary for a 3rd pair Dman/PP specialist unless an equally bad contract is returned to Florida.

Does anyone foresee a trade happening any time soon?

I drafted him in my pool and am in a holding pattern now, not sure whether I should just cut bait...
